The Crow Wing County Snowmobile Trails Association is urging caution to snowmobilers with the limited snowfall of the the season.

While the snowmobile trails in Minnesota open Dec. 1, there are still a number of issues that the snowmobile clubs must address and this can't be accomplished until equipment is out on the trails, a news release stated.


"Remember, we really haven't had much cold weather yet and we have softness in the swamps and there is very little ice on the lakes that has reached safe levels," stated Mark Kavanaugh, president of the association. "The clubs will move as fast as we can to get the trails open and useable for the season, but please remember that we are all volunteers so our schedules vary."

The new trails association map is now available, so snowmobilers are urged to check for changes that may have occurred over the summer.

"Please respect private property and stay on designated trails," Kavanaugh stated. "Remember, club members work very hard to obtain easements from private landowners and these trails exist because those landowners allow us to use their property."

The Crow Wing County Snowmobile Trails Association is made up of the 10 snowmobile clubs in Crow Wing County and two clubs in southern Cass County.
