I wasn't sure how he would handle shooting the .243 but he almost went through a box of shells.  Very tight groups at 50 yards.  I think he plans to go deer hunting this fall.  Yes, he did have to blow up some tannerite.  He also went through about 250 22 rounds.

243 is a nice round for kids and does a great job on deer.  Try the Barnes 100% copper bullets.  The smaller lightweight bullets tend to separate. 
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.
