District 9 - Brainerd area

CO Bob Mlynar (Aitkin) worked fishing, bear hunting and ATV activity. A complaint of geese carcasses being thrown from a pickup was investigated with litter charges filed.

CO Tim Collette (Pequot Lakes) checked bear hunters, early season goose hunters and spent time monitoring ATVs in the Foothills State Forest. Bear success has been good, with one over 400 pounds reported. Hunters out during the opening of the early goose season reported good luck as well. Enforcement activity included reckless operation of an ATV, illegal off-trail travel in a state forest, illegal bear baiting, ATV passengers under 18 without helmets, and many ORV registration issues.
CO Randy Posner (Brainerd) reports there have been a few anglers out trying their luck and the panfish bite has been getting better. Violation of no license in possession was found. He spent time in the Pillsbury Forest and evidence of vehicles operating on closed forest roads and causing damage were found. He checked bear baiters and found violations of litter and fail to register the bait station. He worked a complaint of a long term camper in the Pillsbury forest burning and dumping trash. The suspect was found, told to clean up the litter and a citation was issued. He checked horseback riders for trail passes. He checked goose hunters on the Gull river and in the fields, hunting has been spotty.

CO Pat McGowan (Pine River) patrolled Cass and Crow Wing counties for bear hunting activity.

CO McGowan also patrolled Whitefish Chain over the busy holiday weekend. Enforcement action was taken for numerous boating violations.

CO Jim Guida (Brainerd) worked nuisance bear activity and boating enforcement this week.

Officer Guida advised numerous individuals observing black bears in their yards to remove any attractive solid waste and/or seeds that would attract bears. Guida worked with Baxter Police officers to shepherd a black bear out of town. Guida patrolled area lakes for boating violations and detected an angler fishing without an angling license. Officer Guida checked early goose hunters who had moderate success. Bear hunting season has begun and hunters are reporting success.

CO Karl Hadrits (Crosby) reports investigating lakeshore alteration issues, and patrolling fishing, boating, OHV, bear and goose hunting activity, the Crow Wing State Forest and Cuyuna Country State Recreational Area over the holiday weekend.

CO Mike Lee (Crosslake) and a COC spent time investigating the removal of a beaver dam on public waters in the Fifty Lakes area. Time was spent checking bear hunters and bear baits in the Crosslake and Emily area. A nuisance beaver permit was issued in Crosslake. He also checked several boaters and anglers on area lakes. ATV enforcement was conducted in the Crosslake and Fifty Lakes area with several citations and warnings issued.
