As I have already told you guys we made 41 Qts of dill pickles last Sat.  One did not seal and I couldn't resist and tasted them today.  Excellent, lots of garlic as we like.  Well what I wanted to say is that we were using our Pyrex 1 Qt, aka 4 cup measuring cup as we always do to dip and pour our hot brine into our Qt. jars.  We dipped into the hot brine for brine in the second jar and it actually blew up in my wifes hand.  I thought she dropped it.  It even made a loud bang noise when it blew up.  It partially shattered but there were lots of long sharp pieces of glass on the floor and stove also.  NOT the way Pyrex is supposed to be.  I heard that China bought out some of these companies and have cheapened the formula and that Corning Wear, Pyrex etc may be dangerous now.  We have had this one for 8 or 9 years and it worked fine till now.  SO be careful.....

Funny ya bring that up....I had a Pyrex glass mixing bowl do that about three weeks ago, when I put some really hot water in it for some snap peas. *CRACK*SHATTER* Peed me off, as it was the smaller glass bowl in the 3 bowl set; you've seen them, the clear ones. Went to the Goodwill store the next day, and found the same sized one with the 90 degree "lip" edge on it...lots easier to grab. It's an older one...Pyrex..."Made in USA" on it. Cost me a buck. Lotsa good glassware bargains like that to be had at those secondhand places.  ;)

I bought a stainless steel soup ladle and works great. Also use one of those thingy's you put in the jar top to minimize spillage.

Walked outta Goodwill last week with a new Tramotina 3 qt  gourmet stainless stock pot...."proudly made in the USA" stamped on the bottom. No top, but I have two 3 qt glass tops at home exactly like what's supposed to be on it. Don't think it was ever used....$4. Can't beat that for a bargain.

I was working at a restaurant and the manager grabbed a full Pyrex coffee pot.  As she swug around the pot exploded; spilling hot coffee all over her... um... lap.  She went straight to the office, closed the door, and we didn't see her for quite a while.  i will never forget the look of agony on her face.

Pretty darn dangerous.  I thought the whole idea was to be good with hot liquids.  Now we are using an old plastic measuring cup from now on when canning.
