This is a tip to keep your ice holes open in a permanant fish house. Just take the largest metal Coffey can that will fit in the hole and sink it in the water a few inches (you can use a rock or anything else you have laying around to weigh the can down). When you come back the can will be frozen in the hole. Just take a small piece of newspaper and light it in the can. It doesn't take much paper or a huge flame (a normal sunday paper should last all season). Closepins and Coffey cans... what else do you need?

Nice tip! I would have to say, this is the best tip so far.

I've heard of a few different ways to keep holes open (baloons etc...) but this one sounds pretty easy and inexpensive, i'll give it a try.

When fishing in cold weather and you want to keep your guides from freezing; spray them with PAM cooking oil.
