Garage door sections for an ice shack?

 I was on the way back from leech friday and saw two different shacks on the road built with door sections. does any one out there know someone who has done that and how well they hold up? I can't see any reason why they wouldn't work great.

I would say, assembled with the proper hardware, they would hold up wonderfully.

I know a guy that does that. He is in thje garage door buisness.  He gets odd sections and makes icehouses out of them. He uses the steel front,steel back insulated sections.

One thing I've noticed after seeing lots of icefishing shacks is; that with a fair amount of innovation and ingenuity, a guy can make a decent shack out of just about anything that he has available.

I've seen 'em made of:
1.  chicken wire and spray foam insulation
 2. 1x1 lumber and a vinyl tarp
 3. a square 500 gallon plastic water tank

I've always thought that one of those seagoing shipping containers with some spray foam insulation inside would make a great shack.  They're pretty sturdy and are already on a frame that could be used as skids to pull them across the lake, plus they already have anchor points welded onto them that  the plow truck could hook up to for pulling the shack.

Where would be a good place to find some panels?  I may just try this.

I have a place here in Little Falls that has them for sale at a reasonable rate.  The guys name is Mark Nelson from JMS Log Creations.  (320) 632-1618.  I have a friend of mine whos son built an 8 x 20 out of these panels, and this thing turned out awesome.  It is warm, sturdy, what we all would want in a house except the hot blonde to take up the slack time when the fish arent biting.

I wonder if garage door companies give them away when they install new doors, anyone know?

  ??? my guess is to be in the right place at the right time ? or even if you can get them for a few dollars , thats not so bad either ! aluminum sideing and insulated all in one shot

From what I've learned since this started is garage door installers have been building sheds and fish shacks etc. since time began.They would also rather scrap them out as opposed to give them away.Your best bet Big D is to befriend an installer I've never met one on a jobsite that didn't hunt or fish and are usually very friendly as opposed to electricians.

I have a buddy who does vinyl siding, I'll have him use his connections and give it a shot...
