Another great day on the ice

Maybe, just maybe, the poor ice conditions is a real blessing to anyone willing to hoof it out on a lake.  No pickups, no wheel houses can result in fantastic fishing for those willing to drag a portable or just fish the old way in the elements.  I went yesterday with my son and brother and had a great day on the ice. One other fisherman pulled his stuff out and fished about 1/4 mile away from us but other than that we had the lake for ourselves.  We caught 26 northern and 9 bass and as many sunfish as you wanted to catch as well as a few bonus crappie.  We had a flurries with multiple flags, but the best was 4 flags and only three fishermen. Before that was over we had a fifth flag so out of six lines five were out on the ice.   
 
It was a bit of a hike for an old timer but was worth it in the end.

The bass were between 16-17 inches.

 


No real lunkers but we got a few respectable pike


Who says you can't catch a crappie on a tipup.
