I have heard on a couple of occations that any profits made by your local chapter of Humane Society goes to their main office. The main office uses these funds for any anti hunting, fishing or any other "save the animals" project that they see fit.

After all, save the animals is what they do...Isn't it?

I've heard the same and believe it is true. I do know that when someone rescues a dog from the Humane Society, you have to sign an agreement that you will not hunt the dog.

I've heard There are 2 of them that are unrelated. One is basically a nationwide anti hunting organization and the other is more an animal rescue organization.

I don't know about that but when my mother picked up her dog there, she didn't have to sign anything like that. Besides too good a bird dog not to hunt. It just loves it. Try walkin out of that house with a gun without gettin run over.

I rescued a dog about 11 years ago from the Humane Society in Woodbury Mn. I remember them asking me if I was going to hunt the dog, I asked why and they told me it was against there policy. I really can't remember if I signed anything or not though, the more I think about it, I think it was more of a verbal agreement.

My point is..... If I would of said "yes" and was going to hunt with the dog, they would not of let me take him home.

We have an animal shelter up here. They are glad to just be able to place dogs and cats. Sometimes chickens and bunnies too . I don't think all shelters are related to the Humane Society and I knowthe one up here they don't care if someone hunts the dog or not.

This is hear say on my part but I heard that the Human Society is the largest supporter of PETA.  >:(  I won't suppport either one of em!

And I don't mean the "People Eating Tasty Animals" chapter; I belong to that one.

I don't if this helps anyone but this is the offical stance that HSUS takes on hunting:

Hunting

As a matter of principle, The HSUS opposes the hunting of any living creature for fun, trophy, or sport because of the animal trauma, suffering, and death that result. A humane society should not condone the killing of any sentient creature in the name of sport. As a practical matter, The HSUS actively seeks to eliminate the most inhumane and unfair sport-hunting practices, such as the use of body-gripping traps, baiting, use of dogs, pigeon shoots, stocking of animals for shooting, and fee-hunting on enclosed properties.

Unfortunately, the welfare of animals may, on occasion, necessitate the killing of wildlife. When such killing is permitted, it must be used as a last resort, be demonstrably necessary, and be conducted by responsible officials, and the methods utilized must result in an instantaneous and humane death.

The legitimate needs of human subsistence may also sometimes necessitate the killing of wildlife. In such cases, killing should be accomplished in a humane and non-wasteful manner. Individuals of endangered or threatened species must be protected from subsistence hunting

It is an interesting read and almost makes one sick on the amount of money that they haul in.

If I remember correctly the Humane Society (dog and cat rescue) has no affiliation to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) ie: the antis.  

And if memory serves me correctly, the Humane Society has no official position on hunting... The HSUS is anti hunting, no to ways about it.  The "true" Humane Society is peeved at all the money they have lost to the HSUS as many unknowing Americans donate funds to the HSUS thinking it is going to the Humane Society for animal placements but in reality is used to promote their anti-hunting agenda.  I remember when the HSUS started making a big push in the late 80's early 90's and the Humane Society tried to get a court order to make them change their name as their donations really took a hit and some people began to rally against them thinking they were part of the 'anti' group when in reality they are seperate entities with no affiliation.  The HSUS was allowed to keep the name as long as they used their full name... (like most people would make the distinction).  It's to bad the low life scums stole the name of  what is an honorable orginization and is besmurching it by now making people think they would be contributing to an anti hunting orginization when in reality they would only be helping out with a shelter.

I just read jonmzak's post and link and that is basically what I learned 15 years ago through my retriever club.  Make sure any donations you make go to the Humane Society and not the HSUS.

i myself rescued 3 labs from  the one in coon rapids back in the 90s and i was never asked if i was going to hunt them...if they would have asked i would have said none of your dam business...my late yellow casey was the best pheasent dog ive ever hunted with my black lab bailey is the sweetest dog not a good hunter but a good working dog and then there mindy the devil shes gone also ...if your looking for a good hunting dog and a good pet and cant afford the breeding price look at the humane society 2 out of 3 aint bad
