Scattering used coffee grounds instead of salt and sand is a great way to fight slippery roads AND cut food waste! Icy sidewalks in Lviv, Ukraine are being coated with brewed coffee grounds donated by local cafes, making good use of tons of grounds that would otherwise go directly in the bin. The coffee grounds have abrasive properties suitable for fighting frozen streets, and it also improves soil quality after the ice has melted. Unlike road salt, it protects dogs' paws and needs no collection after use! Less strain on the environment and preserves natural resources.

Used coffee grounds are a great source also of nitrogen. I save them and put them in the garden, lawn and flowers.

Mom used to do that for the garden too.  I remember doing it when I lived at home also.

interesting, would give it a whirl iffin I was a coffee drinker, been using "chicken grits" from our local feed mill last few years and when I run out of grits  shop "floor dry" works wonders as well plus spring rain washes the floor dry away.
