Yes, I remember the Pfeiffer beer 3 cases for $9.99, and it’s sibling Hauenstien. I had to google the Hauenstien, and to my surprise it’s still made. Glenn, I bet a Pfeiffer or Hauenstien  would go good with that Chef Boyardee pizza?

hauenstein........ no thanks.....i guy i used to make horseradish with drank that.....i brought my own beer. i would drink the soapy dish water we used to clean up with before that stuff!!!

I check up on Pfeiffer's every couple of years.  Last time I checked, someone owned the recipe/brand name, but there were no plans to make the beer.

This time I checked, I found this.

The home page says "New Brewery" and "Pfeiffer’s Famous will be re-opening in Anaheim, CA. Stay up today via our newsletter."

The website has a 2022 copyright, so this appears to be a new venture.  Who knows if it will get off the ground.

Pffeifer's was never known to be a quality brew.  With all the emphasis on craft beers, I wonder if their business model is a good one.

Maybe they will change the recipe and market it as a "Retro" brew.

As a youngster, I always assumed Pfeiffer's was a local brew, because it was made at the Schmidt plant and it was cheap, but not so.

Pfeiffer's was a HUGE Detroit brand that bought the Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company in the 50's, which explains why Pfeiffer's was available here.

Competition from heavyweight national brands like Budweiser, Miller’s, and Pabst began to take a toll on Pfeiffer (and all the other regional brands).  In 1972 the Pfeiffer Brewing name was purchased by Heilman Brewing Company, which was then purchased by Stroh Brewing Company in 1996.  The Pfeiffer name and beer legacy slipped out of mainstream and became a shadow of yesteryear.

The first full bottle(s) I swiped from my Old Man would have been in 1979.   

The last time I remember buying Pfeiffer's was around 1990. 

It was a good run for me, I'd say.

yea i also wonder how many Strohs 30 pacs i purchased.    they might of been one of the firsts where you buy 3 cases and get a rebate. i and 2 buddies went to the cabin for 3-4 days, well i needed to get 3 sets of 3 cases so we each gotta rebate........ it was only fair!!!!!!

when i did field service work at DCI  back in the day, Strohs want available in minnesota yet...i thought i had the world by the hinder when i could drink that stuff!!!!

I remember guys going on an Oly run to by Olympia when you couldn’t buy it here. And also bringing back Coors. Both of them pretty much tasted like watered down Grain Belt.
Another one that someone may remember besides me was a Bruenigs Lager. When I was a kid I’d get a snort of it from the milk cooler in the barn. Tried it as an adult and nearly swore off beer.

Really used to get hammered on Friday nights with Country Club malt liquor. $1.05 for six little cans that would quickly get you where you needed to go.

Remember all of the FW.  Especially people bringing back Coors when they were in Colorado.  Could sell as much as they brought back.  Could really pound them down fast.  A few buddies and I moved out there in the early 70's.  Noone that we knew there drank Coors.  lol  Kind of disappointed us.

I remember my first Coors too.  Rell-ies from Colorado smuggled some across the boarder.  Us east-of-the-Rockies folks couldn't figure out what all the hype was about - it being all watered down and everything.   

And I'd forgotten all about Stroh's 30 packs; definitely a value purchase.  Brilliant marketing campaign.  Six "free" beers.

Those Coors punch top cans were unique too. It was OK but pretty watery when you compared it to all the Schmitty's we drank. Reputedly Schmidt or more likely G. Heileman at the time put money in the U's malting barley breeding project when I was an undergrad. We were involved with the fertilizer end of the experiments, especially the nitrogen. Tricky to grow good malting barley. Too much nitrogen, the protein gets too high, the extractable starch is too low and it goes flat, making it miserable to harvest. Not enough nitrogen and it doesn't yield for crap. We wound up with a lot of free beers out of the deal somehow. One I miss was Schmidt Extra Special. A friend's dad used to have cases of it so we'd pilfer as many as we could. Got some back in the early 90's in Owatonna. Haven't seen it since.
