I’m sure everyone has heard the song by now and many agree…it’s not hard too.

But I gotta admit, I don’t!

I know the rich are beyond rich now days, but I could care less.  I look at what my grandpa went through. He worked a hard life, was in WWII, forced to travel for his job, took a big hit when the telephone company sold off (investments), never traveled the country, let alone the world. He never owned a boat or second home, or even a second car.

I then look at my father. Worked two jobs to make ends meet. Hardly went on vacations. Never travels the world. Had a small boat with. 9.9 motor until retirement. He’s living a great life now but the struggle was real for a large portion of his adult life.

Now I look at myself. Traveled all over the world. Take 2-3 large vacations a year. Take hunting and fishing trips almost monthly, including Canada, western elk hunts, destination whitetail hunts, bought a large boat at age 26. Bought my ATV at 29, snowmobile at 30. House paid off before the age of 40…I have a big surprise next week but don’t want to curse it. All this on a two year degree.

I look at my younger coworkers in the same field. They all buy what they want and go on vacation when they want. I don’t know their retirement, but I know I’m gonna retire WELL before the age of 60.

This probably comes off as bragging but it’s really not. This is the norm for so many these days.  I hate paying taxes and complain about so much what the government does with MY money and how the rich are wealthy beyond belief…but life is so much better these days. Life is affordable for so many then it was a few decades ago. Though it seems the times are getting rough, this happens every so many years.

I guess, I just don’t know what everyone is so angry about.

  • 2015 deer contest champ!!!
There's a 5 page thread on IDO with the same title.

Never read any of it nor do I plan to. And I have no idea what it's all about nor do I care.

But that's just my opinion.

A meaningless bunch of drivel.  Some good some not so good.  Means nothing.

Maybe I’m missing something. I don’t understand what the responses are to the original post. Personally, I think the song has been acquired by a bunch of people as some kind of anthem to bitch about government. Is that what this is about?

P.S. Not a very good song in my opinion. Nobody will remember it in a few years.

It is basically a song bitching about the politicians screwing over the middle class if you ask me. And it hits the nail right on the head. I also have a 2 year degree and my wages have gone up 10k-12k the last 2 years and I had more money in my pocket 3 years ago than I do now. The point of the song is the government is not for the people and this fine state is a prime example of that.
Hey look your bobber is up!
