With softwater season fast approaching, I was wondering what new gear, line, hooks, lures you have or will be purchasing soon for the upcoming softwater season.

I'll be getting another rod/reel combo soon (just cuz I have to!)  ;D
And spooling it and a couple other set ups with PowerPro line.  I hope to pick up some crankbaits this year and try to learn how to use them properly.  I've always been a live bait fisherman (old school baby).  So this will be new to me using crankbaits.   I might consider getting a few ultralight combo's for panfishing as well.

I have 3 things on my list. I'm gonna try the new Berkely Crystal on one of my rods.

I'm also going to add 4 new rods to my collection this season, I started using JR's Tackle Ice rods this year and will be changing over some of my open water rods to JR's.

Check out the JR's Tackle rods here www.jrstackle.com

Last on my list is adding 4 new Gander Series reels, I really like the GST25F and GST30F they are both 10 Ball Bearing reels made by Pflueger for Gander Mountain, I allready bought 2 this winter.

I also agree with Spinach, I will be switching over to Fireline Crystal from PowerPro.  I don't know how you can use anything else than a translucent braid, unless you are needing a fluorocarbon leader on you Lindy Rig or while using a bottom bouncer.  I also have use JR's rods for the past couple of years and will not buy anything else from now on.  You can't beat the quality for the price, you wont be disappointed!!!

Well I'm beginning to think I need to make a new list.  For some reason I never thought to look at JR's for softwater rods.  And as for the Fireline Crystal-has anyone tried it-or is it that brand spanking new?  I guess I'm always chicken to be the guinea pig when trying something new-but then I don't usually catch anything so it may not even matter!  ;D  Splinter on the other hand does most of the catching-maybe I'll let him decide.  I'm just the guide-those that can't do teach!  ::)

So we are talking open water huh.....I cannot wait! ;)

I need 2 new rods (JR's). A new rod for trolling and a new multi purpose rod.

I need 2 new line counter reels and then new line for all my reels.

As far as tackle goes I should be good except for some misc items like hooks and 1/32 jigs. I seem to go through those more than anything.

Toward the end of the season I got a pretty nice Muskie set-up. Now I just have to fill my box with muskie baits. This will be my first year really do any Muskie fishing. Looking forward to giving that a try.

Picked up a new trolling rod and reel counter set up at Cabelas so can't wait to try that trolling for walleye (summer / fall piggies) and some pike.  Also have a bunch of new cranks to go along with the trolling rig.  I have a few new shallow running cranks (1 - 3 feet) that I will like to test out by running them on top of the weeds in the early and late summer for pike and bass. I also want to do more jigging for walleyes this year on the river and Mille Lacs.

But my #1 thing I want to do is just to get out fishing again!!!
