  • First deer
it was my first year deer hunting.

It starts in Marsell witch is an hour north of Grand Rapids in the group was my uncle John Dan Swartz and Roger Swartz and Dan buddy Jason and then me of course my dad couldn't make the trip.
So i hunted with my uncle on Saturday we saw big doe in next yard  to us but we didn't  get a chance yo shoot it so we went back to the cabin and eat and went to bed  the next morning my uncle and i were back out huntting at around six forty five or seven o clock i saw the BIG buck he just came walk en in he was about forty feet away i let him walk past this big tree the all of a sudden BOOOOM he ran no more then fifteenfeet and dropped so the whole group helped clean it and drag it up the hill.

That is my hunting story

My favorite moment when hunting happened about 7 years ago when my youngest son was 8 years old.
I was bow hunting deer and decided to take junior along. We set up in between a couple downed trees that offered a clear shooting path in three directions, and the wind in our face.
About an hour later we had a nice 6 pointer walk up to us in one of the clear shooting lanes. Junior adjusted his seating position slightly and it caught the deers attention. It moved in a little closer and was standing about fifteen feet away, trying to figure out what the heck we were. It would stomp it's front foot, snort, lower its' head and cock it to the side. Then it would run about twenty yards out, stop and repeat it's antics before coming back in within fifteen  to repeat the process. The third time he did this I was able to draw the bow when he was running out. When he trotted back in he stopped broadside to us at twenty feet. Junior coughed and the deer jumped straight up in the air but instead of running it started its' goofy behavior again. It slowly moved a bit closer and finally must have caught wind of us because he got that, "I am so screwed" , look on his face. He slowly began backing up, keeping an eye on us the whole time until he must have felt he was far enough away when he wheeled around and bolted away.
I had numerous opportunities to arrow the deer but decided to pass and let the show, (that only mother nature can offer), go on. I will never forget the looks on juniors face when this was happening, it was genuinely priceless and something we both still talk about today when we're out hunting...

Was sitting while an uncle of mine pushed the woods. I hate sitting by the way. It was muzzle loader season. (50cal. 150grain) put my head down to light a cigarette and looked up to see 9 deer run out a couple little nipple heads and some nice does. They Came to a dead stop in the middle of the dip into the woods witch was an open field. So I Shot the biggest Pig Doe I seen in the group from about 90 yards between the ears it never even took a step.

I remember the first time I was pheasat hunting with my uncle and dad. I ws about 13 and we were walking along the edge of a pond in some taller weeds. All of a sudden a big buck got up literally abotu 10 feet in front of me. I am not even sure what expletives I said at that moment, but it was quite a string of obscinities that I would have never said in front of my dad, that's for sure! I remember my dad and uncle joking with me about how much trouble I would be in w/ mom if they ever told her what I said!

This took place about 6 years ago. It was my grandsons first year of sharing a stand with some one, he was 9, so this alone made it a special hunt. The other thing that made it special was that I was carrying my dads rifle, which was the first time it had been used since he had to quit hunting and had past on.
The first morning was cold and blistery and i figured my grandson would make it maybe 2 hrs before wanting to go in, but he was a realy trooper and just asked after 3 hrs. if we could light the heater so I did and he got up close to it and played his game boy for a while. About 20 min. later he said he was warm enough and I could turn the heater off if I wanted, gramps just slid it closer to himself for a while. I spent most of the day teaching him about the importants of making and movement in the stand slow and quietly and having to keep a sharp eye and ear out for anything that looked or sounded different or any kind of movement.  By days end we had seen a few deer and he asked why I didn't shoot any of them so I explained grampshad shoot a lot of deer and was in hurry to fill his lic. and just enjoyed being out there for the hunt, but that when he was old enough to shoot a deer he could shoot anything he wanted that was leagel. That night before going to bed he came to me and said thanks gram pa, I had fun today, maybe we will see something you want to shoot tomarrow. The next morning he was no problem to get up and we were in the stand before daylight. About 1 hr. after daylight a nice 6 pointer came trotting into the slash and I fired as he crossed a grass slew but he didn't drop right away. Typical lung shot. I worked the bolt and the 257 but the emty didn't eject so I tookmy eyes off the deer while trying to get the empty out and by the time I looked back up the deer was down. I couldn't spot him so I asked my grandson if he saw it go down and he said yup he's rite there Kampala. His story from then on was that he had to show gramp pa were the deer was and of coarse gramps says yup would of never found him without you. Got a deer hunter on my hands and I love it.
