TNT ran the "Wide Open Coverage" tonight at the Pepsi 400 race at Daletona.  Bascially it allowed the viewer to watch the race coverage in "full screen" without the information being overlayed on the coverage.  Usually there is the strips of blank screen on the top and the bottom of the screen.  TNT moved the top blank strip to the bottom and combined it with the bottom blank strip.  The race ticker and other information was put in this "blank strip".  Commercials were also put in a seperate window, which allowed the racing coverage to continue in the background.  The commercials were also kept to 3/hour-which was fantastic compared to previous races.  This way you never missed a second of coverage-and at a place like Daletona-every second of coverage counts!

I hope this is a sign of things yet to come at TNT/ESPN!  Fox used to be my favorite channel to cover the races-as the amount of commercials wasn't overbearing.  But TNT must have heard the fans-and someone certainly called it right on the nuggets by bringing "Wide Open Coverage" to us "lowly viewers"!  Now with any luck TNT/ESPN/ABC will continue this type of coverage!  And maybe, just maybe other sports will follow suit-such as Football, Baseball, Basketball, ect. !   ::cheers:: Kudos to you TNT!  The race didn't go like I had quite wanted it to, (rarely does it ever), but you sure made it more enjoyable and exciting to watch!   ::cheers::
