Time to pack up and head out to the BWCA for the annual 3 week pilgrimage. I can't wait to get the heck out of Dodge. You would think we were going for 6 months with all the stuff we take. Hope to get some nice photos to go along with my report when we return. I'll be on Basswood Lake at the Canadian Border chasing Big eyes and Smallies.

Stay tuned for Lee' Boundary waters Adventures 2007 to be released in early August.

Wow. The walleyes are nice but the smallies are stunning. Can't wait to see the new pics.
I'm curious? What do you catch most of your bass on?

Thanks for the feedback gang. I'm working on a report this week with the help of my pal Ken who helps me with all the technical aspects of the photos page. As usual it was a wonderful trip that I will never forget. I'll see if we can get 2007 posted by this weekend.

Here is one of the photos from this years trip.

As you can see in the photo I lost my right arm this year while trying to lip a GIANT SMALLMOUTH!

Fawkinnae,

We generally backtroll with the electric only. Using Lindy Rigs, 3/8 oz sinker, 6# test line, & 6# fluorocarbon leader and #8 hooks. Leeches & crawlers preferred. A 7ft to 7.5ft med/light action rod.

Smallmouth guide.
A couple more questions if you don't mind. So are you primarily fishing reefs or shoreline and how deep do you try to target? Oh, any dislocated shoulders on this years batch of smallmouths? You must be catching really good numbers of bass to come up with all these giants. What fun.

Fawkinnae,

Fished mostly from 17 to 43 ft. If they weren't holding on the reefs or rocks we would fish the flats (transition areas) , meaning where the rocks end and soft bottom starts.

You can kid about the dislocated shoulder, but I have tendinitis in my thumbs and palm areas. While playing my 5th giant smallmouth in a 45 minute period my left hand got all cramped bad and was in great pain. I was scared because I thought I was having stroke.

For the rest of the trip I had to learn to hold the rod with my thumb up in the air to pervent any painfull cramping while playing any larger fish.

On the lighter side I did loose my right arm trying to lip a big smallie.

Thanks for the feedback SMG

Sorry to hear about the loss of your limb. At least it was lost for a good reason. That looks like a sabertoothed smallie all right.
