Public invited to participate in development of Sakatah Lake State Park Management Plan (2007-08-30)

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is updating the management plan for Sakatah Lake State Park near Waterville. The plan is being revised through an open process and anyone who is interested has an opportunity to be involved in the effort. The first opportunity for public involvement was during an open forum held last month at the park. Currently, interested citizens are invited to become members of a Citizen Advisory Committee.

The first Sakatah Lake Citizen Advisory Comittee meeting will be held from 5?6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, in the park?s former interpretive center. At this meeting DNR staff will provide an analysis of the region surrounding the park as well as an overview of the natural and cultural resources found in the park. The Advisory Committee will use this information to help guide their recommendations for the resource and recreational management of the park for the next 20 years.

During the course of the planning process the Citizen Advisory Committee will provide input on the development of goals, objectives, and actions regarding natural and cultural resource management, interpretive services, recreation opportunities and potential boundary adjustments at the park.

Those who are interested in becoming members of the committee, but who will be unable to attend the first meeting, should contact the park at (507) 362-4438.

Questions or recommendations for this Citizen Advisory Committee meeting or the planning process should be directed to: Colin Kelly, park planner, DNR Division of Parks & Recreation, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55105-4039; telephone (651) 259-5606; e-mail: colin.kelly@dnr.state.mn.us
