I have been using a 15' ladder stand for most of my hunting days. I am looking at getting either a hang on or climber stand for some more flexibility in the future as I will be hunting some new areas that are not on our own private property.

I would like to hear from others on what you have, what is most comfortable in your opinion, and also looking for something fairly light weight for the long hike into the woods.

Thanks in advance for your help!  ;)

i hear climber is more comfortable, but if there are a lot of limbs on the tree... you have to do some moving.  I just bought a hanger to put up, I am going to use the screw in pegs to climb up to it.  the seat looks big enough, and the platform is big enough to stand on for bow hunting, thats all I was looking for.i'll let you know in two weeks.  ;D
If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?

If you want to be versitile then a climber is DEFINATELY the answer. I monkeyed around with those dumb screw in steps and a hang on for many years. After I got my climber I couldn't believe all the time and safety I compromised with the hang on. When I get to position now I'm not all sweaty from screwing in all the steps and I'm up almost silently. I use a summit viper, no noisy chains,it packs like a backpack so you can have your weapon ready walking in, it weighs about 20 lbs. and holds up to a 300 lb. person The base and climber portion lock to the tree as you go. If I need to lop an occasional branch I keep a wyoming saw in a fanny pack. Check out the summits in my opinion they are #1

My take is look at the area you will be hunting, do the trees have a lot of liimbs you would have to cut for a climber or are they basicly bare to the hight you want to hunt from. With a climber you have no choce but to take it down every night,  hang ons, you can leave in the tree if you want,( if legal where your hunting. For the most part, for the country I hunt I like the hang on's but one climber is on my wish list.

Im with you Trip.  Its on my wish list.  I have a strap on type and have had my fair share of sweaty set ups.  Id also like some strap on tree steps to eliminate screwing in the pegs and a line man's belt so I can work hands free.

Im trying to make some steps that are similar to strap ons.  They're more of a synch style.  If I could ever get parolled from this job in Nort Dakota, I'd make one or two up and post some pics.
