Has anyone had a chance to see the new Fish Trap Thermal X by Clam Corp yet? This new house retains heat and is insulated. They say it stays 28 degrees warmer inside.

Here is a link Fish Trap Thermal X I believe Frabill also has their version for 2008.

At a price of $899.99 plus tax, i think I'll stick with my Yukon for a while.  :banghead: I see no reason to have an insulated portable for a couple of reasons.....

1. I like to stay warm in my house but not warm enough where I get lazy and start taking my jacket, hat and other layers of clothes off, i like to stay portable and if I'm not on fish, i'm moving until i find them. If I'm sitting in my shack and its 80 degrees, more than likely i am fishing in a t-shirt and when It's time to move, i would have to get dressed again. I prefer to keep it just warm enough so that I can take off my gloves, unbutton my jacket and not have the holes freezing over.

2. At almost a thousand dollars for a 2 man portable, a person might as well buy a used wheel house.

What do the rest of you think?

I would have to agree that it probably isn't worth the money, but for different reasons.  I have a Clam 5600 and with a heater it stays plenty warm.  I guess you could maybe save some money on propane for your heater, but the price difference would buy you quite a few bottles.

I can definitely see where these would be great to have though too....

They are a lot less in money than buying a new or most used wheel houses and if you allready have a different portable, you could stay more comfortable on a long day or weekend at the lake. Use the Thermal X as a basecamp and jump holes with your other portable.

Looks like a nice feature, but I would be concerned about the added weight also. I insulated my Fish Trap Pro from front to back with reflectix. It does help keep the heat in and it also reflects the light from my rope lights. Much cheaper solution if you want to add insulation to your current portable.

I think the insulated X's are kinda meant for the guys that fish the big lakes up north, Winny, LOW, Red, Rainy...where the weather and wind factor is a bit more extreme.  I have the old trap and I bake in mine most of the time with a buddy jr. and thats w/ led lighting.  If im gonna be up on them big lakes, Im basing out of my trailer shack and buzzin around in the trap on my atv....no time to get cold!  Yeah the new portables are gettin really nice... but they're also gettin really spendy!! :banghead:       -thunderpout :happy1:
