Outdoor Authority URL Ice and fishing Report

Wednesday, December 05, 2007
I finally got caught up enough around here to spend a little time on the lake, I don’t know where everyone is finding this so called 10 inches plus of ice.  I managed to mark a trail out 1 mile and I measured the ice with a tape measure about every 100 yards (many times more often than that) and the thickest ice I found was 9 inches with most places measuring 7 and 8 inches, I did find a few spots closer to shore the were just 6 inches. It looks to me at least another week before we can even think about driving anything bigger than my Suzuki on this side of the lake.

Just came back for the lake, things here do not look to bad, still I only found 10 and 11 inches of ice.  Starting today I am going to allow small trucks to use our access if they so chose, I know personally it is much easier than dragging a portable house on foot.
We are suppose to get a little more snow tonight and again tomorrow along with some brisk winds, this could help with some of the snow or maybe it could make it worse, we just have to wait and see.  Again all I am asking is anyone taking a fish house on to the lake this weekend to please take it off when they leave.

We had quite a bit of traffic considering the poor ice condition at the middle of last week, as usual the fishing was off quite a bit from what it was previous, I always attribute that to the extra noise on the lake.  The fishermen that did the best got far away from the center of the activity, I know more would have done so but were unsure of the ice conditions, funny how some fishermen don’t like to be the first one to a new spot this early in the season.
The ice is coming along nicely, with 11 to 13 inches everywhere I looked.  I now have a road plowed out 1 ½ miles straight north and I will be plowing some side roads off to the east later in the week, so by next weekend we should have enough ice for just about everyone. I would still wait on putting out the heavier permanent houses until after Christmas, there is a lot of snow on the lake and flooding is still a problem.
