Yesterday I fished on Portage Lake just north of Park Rapids.  I fishing from about 9am until 9pm with a little rest in between.  The whole lake is pretty much the same depth so I started around the other houses.  I don't think we caught a fish until noon when we moved to the really shallow water.  Around 3:00 We setup in the middle of the lake hoping that the crappies would start biting after dark.  It was starting to get dark and I was starting to lose hope, but then I saw some activity just below the ice on my flasher.  I brought one of my lines up and had a crappie.  Over the next hour we pretty much caught one after another.  We were still catching them at 9:00 when we left so I don't know how long it would have lasted.  There were no real big fish, but most were decent size with a few small ones mixed it.  We were the only ones left on the lake after dark so I'm not sure if this is something you can expect on this lake.
