Well with the opener just around the corner I am sure a few people may have some questions on how to take care of the lunker they are having sleepless nights over this week.
I will toss you a few dos and dont's
1. Don't gut your fish in any way shape or form.
2. Don't wrap your fish in any kind of paper or card board.
3. Do get your fish to your taxidermist as soon as possible.
4. If you can not get to your taxi right away wrap the fish in a soaking wet towel, lay flat with all fins against the body, place inside of a plastic bag, and freeze as soon as possible.
5. Try to avoid big struggles with the net and or the floor of your boat.
6. If you choose to go the replica route get a length and girth measurement if you can. Take a photo or two and get it back in the water as quick as possible.
7. Last but not least CALL me if you have any questions. You could call someone else but I would rather you called me!!!! ;) ;D
Good luck to all of you that have plans for the opener!!!!! :fishing:

I remember when I was young...about 20+ years ago there was a guy who was going to mount a fish and he had it wrapped in newspaper? For some reason that has always stuck in my head. I guess I have no idea why yuo would wrap it in newspaper!? The wet towel sounds great and now I know. Not sure what I would of done.

Back in the good ole days everything was wrapped in newspaper, the wet towel trick has been around for at least 30 years. I have a fish on the wall and when I called in for advise that was what I was told to wrap it in. Being a newlywed at the time I used a GOOD towel and  still get remined of it.

I wrapped one in my shirt once because I didn't have a towel with and didn't want it to get beat up in the truck on the way home. That's the only time I ever let a walleye wear my shirt!!!
