Walleyes, Lake Trout, Bass, all biting

[Halversons on Crow Lake]

With a few days of open water under our belts the trout have started to stabilize on Crow Lake. We seem to be heading for the same bite we had last year which if so it will be setting a trend early Lake Trout fisherman can't ignore. Generally we see anglers setting up on banks and fishing from shore with sucker meat or ciscoes. Beer can fishing is what it is very commonly known by as the empty beer can tinking on shore alerts you to a bite. You generally set up on a bank adjacent to twenty to forty feet of water. We are again finding jigging key right now. Locate the fish on your graph and fish them. White tube jigs and shiner colored buzz bombs are excellent choices right now. One thing to note is the fish have been hitting on the way down alot so be prepared to reel down and set the hook.
The bass on Crow have not yet moved into the spawning areas but are staging in fifteen to twenty feet deep outside these areas. As the water temps warm we should see the fish move in shallower. Todays winner, slow reeled # 3 Mepps in brass.
Our Walleye opener on LOTW saw its usual great action but weather dampened the opener for sure. If your looking for eaters go deep. We caught most of our walleyes at thirty seven feet. Standard 1/4 ounce jig in Glow tipped with a lipped hooked minnow.

Good old crow lake. My grandfather used to live on the lake as a boy back in the early part of the 1900's (Ralph Showalter). Crystal clear waters right next to LOW. Beautiful area. I remember Ice fishing lakers and have had a lot of fun sight fishing smallies. Some huge muskie lurk on those waters.
