What a monster!  I can't wait to hear how it scores.  I saw that video from this summer.  I glad someone was lucking enough to harvest that brute.

Could you imagine how bad that would suck if you were hunting this deer for years and kept him a secret then someone goes out and puts a video of him on Field and Stream and where he is.  Then everyone knows where he is haha man that would suck... I bet theres a few ticked off people at Field and Stream... Congrats to that dude on that buck tho man couldnt even imagine.. unreal..

I believe the deer was aged at 3 1/2 so it could not have been hunted for years.

Has anyone heard who's land this deer was shot on? From what I have heard from the area is that the deer was thought to be residing on "Buffalo County Outfitter" http://www.buffalocountyoutfitters.com/  land and that is where the video was shot as well. I have read about 15 different articles and it doesn't say who's land that the deer was shot on. I just wonder if this guy paid the 3k for his 5 day hunt and got lucky or what the deal is.

i dont think it was poached and i really dont think that the buck is only 3 and 1/2 maybe 4 1/2 at the youngest

Why couldn't the buck be 3 1/2 years old? Lots of bucks develop their largest typical frame at that age.  This buck would have been a lot bigger next year for sure, but it probably would have been more non typical.  A buck that all Minnesotans should know about is the James Rath buck.  It scored in the 230's non-typical and was aged at 3 1/2.  It is very possible that this buck could have been that young also.  It was in the right part of Wisconsin with good crops and obviously good genetics.

im just saying by looking at the picture he doesnt look 3 and 1/2 and also bucks grow there best antlers between 5-6 years old. watch briarwood whitetails they will explain everything.(that also takes place in cheeseland)

the only way to age a deer is by its teeth and after its 3 years old you can only guess by tooth wear and its overall appearance. i would definately say this had a few years left, but this may have been his best rack. theres been captive deer that after 3 1/2 go down and then in its 6th year be bigger than its 3rd. i would guess probably 4 1/2 by the pictures though

"It truly is an incredible animal," said Dodge, who believes that the Decker buck is only 3 1/2 years old, based upon its tooth wear. "I caped it out at the studio and spent about three hours on Sunday enjoying the moment.


Dodge is the taxidermist who is mounting this buck.  Very possible it could only be 3 1/2 as a taxidermist knows or should know how to accurately age deer.
