A friend has been getting these harrassing calls on thier cell. Well they don't ever say anything but you can hear them hang up. Making me wonder if they are calling from a land phone. Anyway these calls have been going on every night sometimes twice for the last two months.

They called the phone company and they said only law enforcement could do anything about it. So they called the sherrif and they said they could do nothing. They reccommended changing the number.

Is there anything that can be done short of getting a new number?

Is the caller ID showing up with these calls?  Do they know the number that is calling them?  If so, they can block incoming calls from that number.

What kind of cell phone is it?  What brand, make and model?  What cell phone company is their service with?

Let me know, and I way have additional advice.  I have worked for the cell phone industry for almost ten years.   :happy1:

The phone is a motorola not sure on the model, will have to ask.

I believe the company is alltel but will have to ask about that to make sure.

More than anything they would like to have to number where it is coming from. They have an idea who it is already but would like to know as there is a no contact restraining order on this person due to previous threats.

Here is one way to stop them.

On the Moto Razr, go into the menu.  Scroll to settings in the menu and select that category.  Go to "Phone" and press select.  Go to "security" and press select (you will need to enter the four digit lock code).  It is usually the last four digits of the mobile number.  Next, scroll down to "restrictions" and press select.  Go to "calls" and press select.  Then select "incoming calls" and select contacts only.

This will limit incoming calls to people that the user has their numbers programmed into their contacts (or phonebook) or their phone.

General where have you been? It is not 69 any more. Due to inflation it is now called 96. The cost of eating out has gone up! :whistling: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Is there a way to block an unknown number?

It's gotten worse Last night she had 3 calls on her cell and 5 at her new home phone. She's getting spooked as the calls quit on her cell and started at home no more than 2 minutes after she got home. She feels like she is being stalked. She called authorities I guess and they said it's up to the phone company to provide a number to them. They don't seem like they are willing to. Well maybe they are honest when they say they are unable to do it. I just think with technology the way it is they can but just feel nobody there wants to. If she could get a number thats all she wants.

Auggie, that is top shelf humor!!! I gotta use that one next time someone leaves an opening on the infamous number!!
Hope the info above works for the person receiving the call from the knucklehead. That has to be incredibly aggravating.

I am getting calls from two different numbers that I have tracked back to Somalia (from the extra digit they have for an area code or something, I used the google machine and it worked!). These calls have been happening for about two weeks now, and I remebered the post.

I have the two numbers in my phone, and was wondering what I should do next. When they first started calling I would tell them to stop, it kept happening so I just started ignoring the phone calls. I called 411, they couldn't do anything. My phone is a motorola, and is through T-mobile.

I don't know if it is some scammers, or just some relatives of people here in Rochester as we have a diverse population rich with Somalian refugees.

Should I call T-mobile, or can I call somewhere else to provent these calls?

Thanks,
Alex

I think the general was close. There is a number you can call and it will dial the last number that called you. There is a charge for it. I'm not sure , it might be *61. We had a dog sitter that called that number a bunch and it was pretty spend y.
