After finishing up the 2008 Archery Deer Season two days a go I had to pick up my daughter. After I got her loaded into the car she aksed me "Dad, when are you going to take me hunting??" She is 3 now and will be 4 in Arpil. I'm thinking she is on the right path.

A while back the women who does daycare for here wanted to tell me a story that she thought I would apprciated. Apparently my daughter had brought a new game to the other kids attention and had them playing it, she called it "deer hunting".  :fudd:

I love it!  I have a 4 year old daughter who also can't wait to go hunting with Dad.  We watch hunting shows together and she helps me when I am going through my hunting gear.  Can't wait til she' s old enough.

Tim,
You just gotta love it.  My 2 1/2 year old grandson says "I'm big enough to shoo a deer".  My poor daughter in law can only roll her eyes.   :rotflmao:

Getting kids into the outdoors...it has to be a mission!

This is one of the things that really makes an "outdoors" Dad feel great!  Or other relative such as an uncle, grandpa, etc.

I am not sure if this is how to post a photo...but it is a photo of my son's first duck hunt when he was 4.  The look on his face on the photo is priceless.

Last year he got to take his BB gun with and shoot at some passing ducks and mostly black birds.

This year, at the age of 6, he was bound and determined that he was NOT going to shoot that BB gun again and wanted a shotgun!  Well...it wore on me enough that I bought myself a new 1187 12 ga. and gave him my 1100 LT 20 ga. auto to shoot (I only shot 20 gauges up to this point in my life...even goose hunting)...so he got my 20 ga. to carry along.

I found a nice spot down on Lake Johanna on a private point and gave him one shell at a time...and stood behind him and let him shoot first.  He secured himself and let a shot go off on the first nice shoot at a coot...I wish I had a camera for the excitement after that!  He did not down the coot but he did a great job of aiming and stayed standing.  Well that pretty much opened the flood gates and he wanted to shoot at everything that came by!  I helped him learn what the ducks were that were flying, distances and safe shots.  He took several more shots with no kills but was thrilled to be shooting Dad's shotgun.

I can't wait!
