The Twins have called up Garza!  He will make his major league debut on Friday, against Toronto.  This kid started the year in class A ball.  He has pitched great at every level and will get his chance at the big show.  I'm excited to see what he can do.  It would be nice if he could continue pitching well, since Liriano is going on the DL.

Hopefully he will pitch well, but we have to remember he is a rookie.  Remember last year when Liriano got called up, his ERA for the season was around 5.00.

Garza better mix up his pitches or they will sit on that fastball that he had been using 90% of the time in the minors.?

After Garza struck out the first major league batter he faced on only three pitches, I thought he might have a good game.  Well, that changed in a hurry and he was pulled after giving up 7 runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Scott Pugh was right, he threw is fast ball the majority of the time, and Toronto ate him up.

Hopefully it was nerves, and he will be able to throw his breaking balls for strikes next time out.

I think a lot of it was probably nerves.  I didn't really get to watch much, but the little I saw it looks like he has pretty good stuff even though they were hitting the ball all over the place against him.  Hopefully they give him another start to see what he can do.  I don't think we really have any better options in the minor leagues right now.

Garza on the mound tonight. (fingers crossed)
Let's hope he pitches a better game than Silva did last night.

Or at least we drive in a few more runs... aggresive base running seems to light a fire under hitters arsses.

Hopefully he will improve this game as much as he did from his first major league start to the second.

Garza pitched great tonight!  He gave up one unearned run.  Twins beat the Orioles 4-1.

He kept the ball down and his curve/slider was in the strike zone plus he had some great defensive help from Bartlett, Castillo and Cudeyer.  In the paper this morning they talked about Liarano possibly being used in a relief role instead of starting for the rest of the year if they can't build his arm strength up to the point where he can throw 80 pitches which I assume would be like 5 innings of work.  If they can get him back to where he was, the Twins will be awful tough in a short series assuming they make the playoffs.

Let me preface this with the following statement, negative comments in this forum in the past about the twins (both the team and individual players) have seemed to spark them. So...

There is no way the twins will make post season.

Garza pitched his 4th major league game tonight.  He gave up 2 runs over 7 2/3 innings.  He looked darn good!  Garza breaking balls were over the plate for strikes, and his fast ball was humming.  Too bad the Twins didn't score any runs for him.  They lost 2-0.

Game 2 tonight vs. the Tigers.  Hopefully the offense will support Garza better then they did Baker last night.
