Lake Geneva Report 8/17/06

Today 8/17 was another successful outing with repeat guys Dick Guliano and Brian Morrow. We started out at Cedar point anchored and everything was fine until they started the sailboat races.

 Before today's and Tuesday afternoon's fiasco I couldn't believe that the organized and (supervised?) races were so full of rude' inconsiderate, and careless event directors. Tuesday we almost got hit twice from the 4 man crewed sail boats and I counted 54 boats in the regatta.
We were ANCHORED and the skippers could see us from a block away today and they ran up on our line and the drag was singing on the reel till it broke. Another boat was headed for a direct hit with us until I yelled at the top of my lungs and they just cleared my bow.

 I finally had enough and had to leave the area, to many Gilligan's racing around haphazardly. As we pulled out of the we complained to the organizers event boat and they just turned their backs to us ( not surprised ) since on Geneva it's every man for himself. Unfortunately rudeness becomes contagious!

 Ok, sorry to get on the soapbox but I needed to vent myself and what better persons to understand than fellow fisherman.

My guys graduated to working 2 rods each as the day went on with some coaching from me to prevent any rods going overboard. When clients use 2 rods each it's a nervous time for me unless they provide their own equipment. Our total for the day was 22 smallmouth and 0 largemouth. All but one smallmouth lived to fight again and the one that didn't make it we gave to another angler at the boat launch. Best depth was 26 to 32 ft today.

This is a prime time for the hot smallmouth bite even if the In-Fisherman solunar calendar say's this week was to be a slower period.

I got this reply from a fellow fisherman today and I thought I would post it.

"I emailed the lake Geneva Yacht Club, and told them about the problem with the sailboats. I told him that you can't come within 100 ft of an anchored fishing boat. I recieved an email back from John Schnupp who is the manager and Executive Chef(!!!!!!) of the LGYC.... and he Thanked me for the info and said he'd pass it on to the Sailors. Ah!!!!! The Power of the pen!!!!!! Monasark"

You are my hero man! Thanks for taking the time out to contact the Lake Geneva Yacht Club. Next time I'll be a little smarter and take some photos if it happens again and contact the police boats at Williams Bay.

Thanks again monasark, you are truly a man of action. Now let's hope that Mr. John Schnupp of (LGYC) is also a man of action.
