Well, got a call from the school about noon yesterday. Reanna (my 12 year old) was with a group playing double dutch jump rope. It was her turn and she went to jump in. She never landed, she just crashed to the ground and her knee was turned outside. They got an ambulance and took her to Woodwinds. We met her there and, after some Xrays, confirmed she broke her Tibula.

They gave her morphine for the pain but couldn't do the surgery there. So we had her transferred to Children's in St. Paul. The docs could do the surgery but were booked until Friday afternoon.  So it was either wait it out or transfer again to Regions. We opted to transfer and then have the surgery today.

I stayed over night with her so she's not alone. I promised her that either myself or my wife would be with her the whole time she's in the hospital. I'll take the brunt of staying though, when my kids are sick I need to be with them. I don't want her to be in a big strange place with no one familiar around her. So you all might see me online even more than usual.

Hope for a speedy recovery for her. She's upset because she will have a scar on her leg from her knee to her ankle to fix this. I told her to think of it as a battle wound and it will be cool to show off!!

I'll post how she's doing.

Sorry to hear about your daughter.  Sometimes these things are harder on you than them.  Hang in there dad,

Hope she heals quickly and is back at it real soon. You're a good Dad, being there for her in a scary time. Need more of that type in this ol' world today.

Surgery sucks.  I hate needles and IV's.  Ask for the drug Propafall for your daughter's surgery. It is a milky looking drug that has no side effects.  No itching skin and no  :puke:  after she wakes up.  I have gotten this sedative every time and have requested it for all of my kids surgeries.  The only thing is your kids can't be alergic to peanuts.

I can empathize with you Sandmann, when my daughter was in the hospital for a couple days, I stayed with her.  She was tougher than I thought, she tried not to worry me.  In the end she came out of it ok, and the bond is even stronger now with us.

As Randy mentioned before....kids heal quickly and she'll be up and about in no time.   :happy1:

Thanks guys for all your support, it's nice to get support from friends on the interent. Funny how you type so much and don't meet everyone, but they all seem close friends.

Her one hour surgery took closer to three. Just waitin' for her to get out of recovery right now, then I'll pull out the roll away and try to get an hour or so of sleep. Everything went well. She had five screws put in her leg and there are some concerns as she grows that her knee could grow backwards, kinda hard to explain, but that's the jist of it. She also had some soft tissue damage running down her leg on the front side of the bone so they took care of that. So far so good though.

Thanks for the update!  Roll-a-way?  I got to sleep in the adjoining hospital bed when my daughter was in the hospital.  The room was set up for a parent to stay with their child.  So that was nice-even had movies to "rent" (free).  After our stay, and things settled down at home we went through all of our movies that we don't watch anymore and donated them to the hospital for kids to watch while their there.  I know it helped make Kelsey's stay a lil more comfortable.   ;)

Wow sorry to hear about that. I will be praying for a fast and succesful recovery for her. Sounds like she has great parents that will be there for her every step of this process.

So they may let her go tomorrow. They can't let kids go under 48 hours after surgery cause it can take that long for the anesthesia to where off. This is fine, she still need some PT to figure out how to get around anyway. I think the morphine and other drugs are starting to where off, she's getting more talkative and back to herself now. She is being very good, I'm pretty proud at how well she is holding up. She's a tough little kid.  :happy1:
