i was just thinking when i was watching VS. i remember that hunting shows used to always be about tips and tricks on how to hunt whitetails. they would explain what they are doing and how and why they think this is going to help get a nice buck. now it seems like every show i watch is just guys sitting on a ranch with a guide passing on trophy bucks until "the one" shows up and they shoot it. anyone else see this change or is it just me?

personally i like watching guys hunting without the guides and fancy condo deerstands. its getting old it seems like your watching cattle being shot. like when i saw jeff foxworthy shooting a 180" deer and then at the end of the show he was pretending to sleep while another huge buck was licking his face!
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!

I watch quite a few of them on VS and Outdoor channel.  Yes, most "hunts" seem to fall into three catagories.  1. Celeberties hunting with guides.  2.  People with their "own" shows hunting with guides on their "special" locations.  And 3, Shows shamelessly plugging everything from underware to shooting sticks.  I don't mind the first two because they are usually well done making for a nice show knowing full well it's not a normal hunt.  The third type really turns me off.  It usually starts with a guy or two discussing how they couldn't hunt without their (boots, coat, optics, gun, scent) you name it, is.  The entire show is interlaced with name dropping of products.  I wonder if the guys really take all that name brand stuff with them?  I can just hear them "oh shoot, I don't have my (insert product here) now I'll never get a (insert game type here)"   :rotflmao:

I agree for the most part. I really only want to watch a show if it is from the midwest or canada. I don't like seeing a 10 yr old 120lb mature buck from Texas that looks like the Grinch's dog with a small body and giant rack. I do have some shows that I record and watch.
You guys should go on Midwestwhitetail.com and watch the shows on there from last yr. This season starts very soon. It's semi live with a show each week. There is a bunch of teams from MN that hunt all over the state. You can click on the state link and watch only the guys from that state.  These guys are your REAL hunters that have real jobs and face all the same obsticals we do. I know this because I know a couple of the people that will be hunting for this show this year. I'm gonna like watching it to see what the deer movement is doing in my area and others. Since it's semi live it will be very informative instead of watching a hunts from last yr. Check it out.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

Agreed.  These guys are good, and you can watch free episodes online.  If you get The Sportsman Channel or Wild TV you can watch them that way also.

The Bucks of Tecomate has got to be the worst.  Nothing but shooting the "big" one.
Take a kid hunting and fishing... It'll be the best thing for generations to come.

Yeah, and ya wonder how baiting deer has gotten so popular...  :banghead:  Those new "hunting" shows are basically unwatchable... I cant believe sponsers tie themselves to shows that are shooting deer out of a box over a bait pile... :doah:  If that is hunting, so is shooting clay pigeons..... Its like those "fishing" shows where the guy is on a private stocked pond getting bass that havent seen lures before,(you know the ones) then they push the lure they used to trick them wiley bass into the boat... the shows arent like they used to be... Im sure the next thing will be "reality" hunting /fishing shows... if there arent some allready.... :banghead:

I think it is great to see these big deer on these shows but not realistic for the average hunter. I also think that they are part of end for hunting for the less fortunate. As people see these big deer farmed more land will be bought up to farm these big bucks either by rich people or by people who sell hunts to these rich people who will spend thousands of dollars to sit in a box and wade through the 3 year old deer waiting for the 5 year old. I have always been a believer that you are fortunate to harvest any deer but these shows push the idea that success is measured in antler size.

Another show for MN came out today on Midwestwhitetail.com introducing some of the teams and their hit list bucks for this yr. Check it out at

http://www.midwestwhitetail.com/gallery/39/media/900/midwest-whitetails-latest-show.html

If that link doesn't work just go to midwestwhitetail.com click on Minnesota and then click on the show. It's pretty sweet. Can't wait until the hunting starts!
