I know there is a trapping thread on this site but it seems very  few people visit that part of this site.

Anyways...At the ripe old age of 42 I have decided to start a new hobbie, it's called "Trapping". I have toyed with a couple traps over the last couple years but never got into it due to time restraints. With the new job that only requires 8 hours of my time everyday and more coons, rats and other small woodland creatures around here, I figured a meager amount of extra cash is to be made.
Can anyone tell me of a good book or instuctional video because I will be the first to tell you that my knowledge of this sport is limited. ???

Big Slick

I appologize for not answering your ? in  the trappin forum. I have been busy at work.

I would really hesistate to recommend a book to any one. There's a bunch of them out there that are very good and more than that that ain't worth a hoot. The reason I'd hesitate is it depends on ones experience.

The other reason is some of the people I've paid for personel instructions have asked me not to divuluge what they taught me in their state until thier death. I will oblige(sp) them in thier request.

Slick  -  Let me know what ur after. I can prolly help ya out. You mentioned coon and rats, well coon you already know where their at or you wouldn't have mentioned them. Rats it's kindda obvious but some methods work better than others.

I don't want to sound arrogent (sp) but it's  difficult to give advice w/o knowing a persons expirience. A Broad ? would be more easy but wouldn't help as much.

Let me know a bit more what ya want and I'll give ya a better idea. PM me E-mail or maybe we could hook up.? I'll help ya out as best I can.

Let me just add to my last post. What I was trying to say most books are writen for beginners.

They have the basic sets and techniques for trapping the critters. Allot of the authors will stess KISS (keep it simple stupid) but at the same time make it more complicated in the book than it really is.

Some others will hold out information. I will attest to that as a well known fox trapper from wisc wanted to put out a book on mink trapping. He asked me to help him so we agreed on a deal. Well to make it short he left half of what I wrote out of the book (the part that really simplified it) and (the part that showed the trick to big numbers). He also shafted me out of $1100, but he isn't around anymore and neither are his publications.

Most of these were put out by johney come latelys. The ones who have been around awhile usually have good stuff.
