Out on the ice Ely MN
While the walleye and crappie fishing remains slow, some anglers are focusing their attention on lake trout, with some good success.

The Boundary Waters lakes, while difficult to get to without a dogsled, are giving up some wall-hanger lakers. If you are looking for a memorable winter fihing trip, check out the local sled dog outfitters to book your reservation. A nice 19 1/2 pound lake trout was weighed in this week which is one of the many brought in this season.

Snowbank and Burntside Lakes are the top choices for lakers in the Ely area. Ciscoes teamed with an Airplane jig has been a good bet on Snowbank, while tube jigs or Chubby Darters have turned the best numbers on Burntside. Both lakes are also giving up a few nice fish to ciscoes laying on the bottom.
