Southern Lake Michigan Fishing Report: January 5, 2010

Kenosha Co.
Ice anglers in Kenosha have taken a few browns on minnows and spawn in Southport Marina.

Racine Co.
In Racine, fast moving upstream stretches of the Root River are still open. The river is holding good numbers of browns and rainbows in the deeper pools, and drifting spawn sacs has proven effective. The Racine harbor is ice covered, but use caution as the ice thickness varies considerably. Water clarity in the harbor has been somewhat poor, but both browns and rainbows have been caught.

Milwaukee Co.
McKinley Marina in Milwaukee has approximately 5-7 inches of ice. Anglers there have been catching occasional brown trout, and tip ups have produced with both shiners and spawn. Anglers open water fishing the Menomonee River at the MMSD offices have been catching a few northern pike; and the river behind the Summerfest grounds is open, but fishing has been slow.

Ozaukee Co.
In Port Washington open water anglers have been catching browns and occasional rainbows near the power plant discharge. Both spawn and casting artificials have produced fish. The west slip has open water, and the north slip is mostly open.

Sheboygan Co.
No report.

Green Bay Fishing Report: January 5, 2010

Brown Co.
Voyageur Park fishermen are having success with both walleye and perch, fishing close to shore in about 10 feet of water. Jigging spoons tipped with the heads of emerald shiners are being used. Duck Creek is also producing perch in and around the 41 bridge. Jigs tipped with wax worms or minnows have been the preferred baits. Sunset Beach fishermen are hunting perch and northern, success has been limited.

Oconto Co.
Perch and pike are on the menu at both Oconto Breakwater Park and Oconto Park II. Perch are biting on both minnow heads and wax worms while large shiners on tip ups are working for pike. Fishermen are staying in and around the boat landing areas due to the fact there is still open water on the bay.

Marinette Co.
Trout are being caught up by the Peshtigo Dam fishing the current edge using ice jigs tipped with wax worms 2 to 3 feet below a bobber. Walleye are biting at the Hattie Street Dam on the Menominee River. The best times to fish are early morning and evening. Rattling Rap's tipped with minnows and used in conjunction with jig poles have been working well. The hot colors up to this point have been blue/silver or blaze orange/gold.
