step right up and put your orders in for the new tested and proven grouse trap.
YOU DON'T EVEN NEED A GUN!!

that's right, the new f-350 6.0 liter diesel powered crewcab doubles as a grouse trap!!
just park your new "Grouse trap" at the edge of a field, roll down three windows, and go duck hunting while the grouse trap does the rest. when you come back to the truck, you just reach in, roll up the windows, and send in the seven year old to dispatch your evening meal ;D

unbelievably, this is what happened to us in the truck in the picture above. my kid says "hey uncle steve, there's a bird in the truck! uncle steve says" that ain't just a bird, it's a grouse!!
so we stick andrew in the truck who clumsily wrings the neck.

today we decided to try things the old fashioned way. we went out to our friend joes place in bagley and the birds were thick.
Andrew and Dan each got a bird today. everybody saw birds and if we hadn't had the already exhausted kids in tow, we may have had a few more.
here is Andrew with his first official grouse taken with his alligator arm modified .410 single shot.
the bird lit in a tree and he put the smack down on it!

he is pictured with our new setter, Maggie. she is four months.
here he is with his mom who was along on the hike to wittness her son take his first bird.

here is a shot with Andrew and Joe. Andrew thanked Joe for letting him hunt at his place and for his first grouse!

not a bad weekend for Andrew. he hunted down and shot a red squirell. he got a shot at a flying ringbill and he got a shot at a grouse and put meat on the table.
he told me he wanted to take his hunting to the next level. I asked "whats next, big game?" "antelope, wildebeast, elephant?"
he said "dad, I was thinking more like a pheasant".
this is how it all starts ;)

Alligator armed.....

She's a sweet dog. I got to meet her at the soup shoot.?

Jiggle, you got any weekends open to do a little grouse hunting? My son and I wouldn't mind teaming up with you and Andrew.
My pup has been schooled the last couple weekends by them grouse, but she's getting the hang of it. They sure test the dog and the hunter. I gave a lot of trees lead poisoning the last couple outings.?

You get any points out of her?

Joe, I am going out west for work for a week or so, but maybe sometime after that.
she did not point any. she was to busy looking for them tasty natural snack, deer droppings. >:(
I didn't expect to much out of her, except to come when I call her, which in that dept. she ain't doing to bad. she did how ever notice a grouse on the run and took off after it. she got about ten yards and it flew, but then she twisted her front ankle and came squeeling back. she was fine moments later. she could walk on it like nothing ever happened.
I hope she doesn't associate the ankle thingy with chasing down that bird???

mayfly, there's alot about me you don't know 8)
we got her just before the weekend of the soup shoot at putz's. my old pointer has been retired and someone has got to step up to the plate. I ain't doin' it and we all know how much pheasants are without a dog.
she should be ready for that next season.
