OK I live close to two lake that have a slot on them, Walleye 18 to 26 go back in the lake,
Now I have a retail in town and today I had a guy come in and I ask him now was fishing he said it was good today, That him and his boy got 4 nice walleye from the shore, Then he said the small one was 20 1/2" and the biggest was 25" I reply wow at lest you that fun, Then he go to tell me that the slot limit dose not apply to him because he got then in the rive and that they live on the rive lake edges. as they was walking out the door the boy said yep ten feet in the river,

Now I know these lakes really good, And all the river that go in to and out of this lakes, I live 5 mile from one he was talking about I know of only one house this could be but it is on the river that go from one slot lake to the other and it is about one mile long,

Now come my ?

1.If you get a slot fish in the river dose the slot apply?

2. How far do you have to be in the river for the slot not apply?

3. If you are on a river that has a slot limit lake on both sides dose this make the river a slot too?

4. If this was you and you find out that he was wrong would you call the DNR hot line?

5. Do you think that this is OK to keep slot fish in a river? if yes Why?

Need less to say that all the fish I throw back thinking that this will help the lake and that you feel good about doing, Then to have some guy teaching this boy that this is OK. On the river edge of a slot lake or on all the lakes for that matter,

WLM,

I have no idea on the rules in this case.  But in my opinion all bodies of water should have a slot size and it should apply to all people who fish even the Indians.

I was under the impression that there is a state wide slot limit now in place.
Just a week ago I read a CO report that he or she had tagged a person for over the state slot limit.

Maybe the paper had it wrong and it was froma lake with such a limit but it seems to me that there was a limit state wide as well.

P.S  I did a search on the DNR site and found the law reads we can have one over 20 inchs.

Not sure of the answer on that. Call the TIP line and see what they say. Never hurts to check into it so you know who was right or wrong. I don't understand why folks keep 20+" fish anyway. there are enough in the 16-19" range that are great eaters if you are looking for meals.
Friends are like buttcheeks..........crap might separate them, but they come together in the end.

ok im going to tread on this carefully. now there is a good chance the guy could be lying... also regardless what the previous lakes slots are it doesnt count on a connecting body of water unless the river begins and ends in one lake to the other its a whole different ball game unless otherwise stated in the rule book, cant exactly look it up because we havent been given that bit of information. as for the 10 feet in the river i dont exactly understand what you mean there regardless if they wading in the water or fishing from shore they fishing that particular body of water(the river) unless it says else were that the river adopts the 18-26 slot the lakes rules dont apply. as for the 1 20" slot statewide(each), again he could be lying, unless you actually seen the fish then again isnt much they(dnr) can do, and im sure thats what TIP will tell you also. as for the critizing the guy for how he teaches his kid is just wrong in my book, if he was breaking rules yes its not good, but he being looked at as being bad because he kept a walleye that a few veiw  it should of be released, because it doesnt  follow there views. you can call tip just to figure it out but good chances are that if he really did catch and keep those 4 eyes that 2 of them have already been eaten which puts them down to 2 and thats the state size limit regulation as mentioned above and again the dnr has to see the fish
