I have been told there are manufactures out there who make a .44 mag rounds for the rifles?

What are they and do they differ from a regular .44 mag like Federal or Remington rounds?

Hornady makes the "Leverevolution" rounds which have that aerodynamic, pointed, flexible tip that allows them to be used in tube magazines of lever rifles... they look like ballistic tips but arent....I use them in my 45-70 and they are very accurate.  I also have a 44 mag that I hunt with, but have used the Winchester Partition Gold ammo and found those to be the most accurate loads I could find... havent tried the Hornady's yet in my 44 yet, but would imagine my groups will tighten up a bit.... they aint cheap though, but definatly worth a look-see!  There are some others that I have read about, but arent intended to be used in leverguns... What will you be using them in?

I have a Ruger .44 carbine my daughter my use for deer hunting next year.I have shot blazer, eagle, and winchester white box through it so far.

The blazers were the most accurate at that time with open sights  , but they were FMJ and the rest were SP ammo.

My cusin shoots the Winchester gold partions as well and said he has taken a few deer with first shot drop in thier tracks results.

Most of the area we hunt is close in shots, last year her buck was 25 yards out when she killed it.
Thanks, Benny

Id like to get a 44 lever gun of some kind... always thought those Henry big boys were pretty cool...(and very pretty! ;)) a Marlin would be nice also.  It'd be really cool to find an old Winchester lever gun in a 44... most people that have the old nice ones dont get rid of them though.....

Those older Winchesters are sweet butvery expensive now.
The Henerys are very nice as well, and I have heard they are very reliable.

The Marlins are not as pretty but are the work horse of lever guns, the deluxe models are nice but harder to find.

Buffalo Bore makes heavy load 44 mag ammo, but I would not put it through a Ruger 44 Carbine.
The gun would probably take it but it would be hard on it.
Years back Remington packaged 44 mag in both handgun rounds and rifle rounds, but I believe that
the only differance was that the pistol rounds were packed 50 per box and the rifle ones were packed
20 per box.  However I could be mistaken.
If I were looking for a lever action 44 I would go with the Marlin as the action is strong and it is a
side eject so it is much easier to mount a scope on it.  As for a scope a 1 - 4 is all the power a
person would need on a rifle like that.

Yes I have seen the Remington boxs of 20 .44 mag as well as a Federal box at a gun show in Pine City this year.

I just read the artical on the plus P .44 mag, seems they recamend these rounds for the rifles because of the longer barrel can burn off the powder better.
Don't know how much truth is in that but at least the longer barrel can help get the velocity up.

I found a recipe in a reloading manual for some 300gr bullets and 1250fpsout of a 20 inch barrel.
Bet those slugs kick a bit though, even out of a semi auto.
