Midsummer on Lake of the Woods: The temperatures are warm and the fishing is hot. Our charters have been slamming fish all week! We had several boats catch their limit of Walleye in a couple hours or less during the past week. Along with all the eater sized Walleye being caught, guests are still catching plenty of Walleye that fall in the 19.5 – 28 inch protected slot. The number of fish being caught in that size range has been impressive all spring and summer. We continue to see a trophy over 28 inches here and there as well. The big fish for the week hit the tape at 31 inches. Congrats to Kathleen Fortman for landing(and releasing) that trophy!

Depending on wind direction, our guides have been fishing, and catching, all over the lake. The south shore bite out in 30-32 feet of water is still very good. We continue to see good catches of fish from anchoring and jigging with a leech or a shiner. However, the downrigging bite is certainly picking up steam versus the jig bite out on the mud flats. Brightly colored Shad Raps, Wally Divers, and Reef Runners have been hot. The fish aren’t showing a consistent preference to color at this point. The live bait bite farther north on the lake has been great as well. Jigging or drifting with spinners near or on structure has been the ticket.

Weather wise it looks like another comfortable week ahead. Temperatures are forecasted to be in the upper 70’s all the way through the ten day forecast.

Don’t forget about our July Midweek Package Specials. All 2 night and 2 day packages or longer are discounted for guests who arrive on a Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. Take advantage of great fishing and beautiful July weather. Best of all, enjoy it during the week while everyone else is stuck working!

Fish On!
