I hope I don't regret letting one go.

This morning at 9:30 I had a nice 8 point at 20 yards.  I had my bow in hand and the release on the loop.  He knew something was up but wasn't sure.  He was a 2.5 year old with a nice (beyond the ears) dark chocolate colored rack.  If he was a little bigger, (or smaller) I would have no doubt, but he was just in that damn that's nice range.  If it was a month later, I think I would have shot him.  He eventually turned and did the stiff leg, head jerk walk away.  As he went straight away I could see his rack from behind, then I really had second thoughts about not shooting but by then it was too late.  Maybe our paths will cross again this fall.

He will be back, no doubt.  Unless he was spooked, but if he just walked away because he knew something wasnt too right, Im pretty sure he will come in again.
I had a doe come by me three times, all the times huffing and weezing at me because it spotted by camo backpack on the hook on the tree - but it kept coming back.
-- You can look at it the other way, if you were to shoot him, and then see a huge 12 pointer, you would have wished you would have let the 8 pass you by.

he will be back deadeye, plus theres a few bigger than him out there im sure.. plus he will be bigger next year if he survives. i had the same thing on opening evening MTCOMMER had 2 does come through, i didnt see them and i stood up to stretch a little and then there they were, they walked by anyways and walked away. then 4 more came and the one seen me move for the bow but couldnt quite figure out what it was, she walked by huffing and weezing and stomping, left then came back to the left out of the bushs trying to stare me down while doing the head bob and huffing and stomping then came closer lol it was entertaining to watch then she flagged and ran wind was in my face, she just knew something wasnt right so was out of there and the other 3 just started to walk in her general direction

I almost forgot.  Don't you have a little payback for the large buck that messed up your broadhead with his antler?

dakids, yes, I hope to see a bigger one before the season is out.  Also, I hope the one I clanged with the arrow is still around.  I would like another encounter with him.  I haven't put the camera where I would expect a buck to travel.  I got a lot of doe/fawn pictures.  It's early in the season and I'm just easing into it.
