Bird cleaning tool?

  Has anyone used one of those plastic cleaning tools.  Looks like a spear with points sticking out all over.  I caught the end of a commercial and did not get enough info.  It looked like you shove it twist and pull.   Maybe someone will know what I am talking about.

         That is a pretty cool idea-  That is not the tool I was looking for.   I think this spear thing I saw was just for gutting the bird.   Maybe it was for turkeys.  I'm sure I will see it on a commercial soon.  Thanks.

I think it's called the "Butt Out"?  The have a version for whitetail deer.

It may be worth it if they sold for a dollar but what do you do with the feces covered tool after you use it in the field? Stick it in your pocket? More junk to pack is all it is. The butt out I had broke in the back of the truck somehow and I will not replace it it just is not worth it in my opinion.

       Thats the one I saw.  I don't see how it would work for deer.  I could see how it would be handy for  field dressing waterfowl.  It clearly removes the guts but the lung and kidneys would not be touched.   (Removing all the internal organs is an overstep).  I did not check the cost but we usually like  to tap our birds right away.   I think I will try it.  (for ducks)

Gimmick don't be a sucker... We all have been using a knife for years and have never had a problem..  Keep up the good work..

I have to agree with gveire and kenhuntin, gimmick and more stuff to carry.  I'm sure it works but a knife works just fine too, you just get a little blood on your hands.

If you are looking for a real tool to clean birds get the one you hook up to the hitch of your truck.  We use in in Canada and the thing works great.  You have to put your back into it for Canada Geese though and also the only other down fall is if you have a broken wing.

The bird hitch is a great timesaver for breasting waterfowl. It leaves the wings attached for legal transport. And yes even the directions read "for Canada Geese pull like hell"

I forget the name of the sports store down in St. Paul that carries them?? Anyway, they are around a hundred bucks but the time saved, to me, is worth it. Less time getting dirty at the end of the day and more time for relaxation!
