Ok, I'll go first.  It was Friday towards the end of the 2008 gun season.  Being I had already shot a few deer, I put my brother in the "go to" stand and I went in a stand about 100 yards away just to watch the activity.  This guy was passing about 30 yards out and I intended to let him go being he was headed towards my brother.  His path took him directly downwind of me.  I had my gun up and just as he got my wind he froze and stared at me.  Thinking he would now just blast out of there, I shot him.  I have taken bigger deer (by weight) but this 13 pointer had the biggest antlers I have taken.

We bought land in the late summer and didn't get to do to much scouting because of a knee injure and the following surgery.  3 weeks before the season I finally scout on foot a few of the spots that I located on the internet and found paydirt.  Opening morning I hear a deer comming my way through the thick stuff and then the noise stopped.  I finally locate his butt.  He had bedded down 60 yards away.  2 hours later another buck commes down the same path and they both take off in the other direction.  I hear them fighting for about 10 min. and then nothing.  I hear a shot about 10 min later and figure they are gone for good.  I climb down for lunch and as my foot hits the ground I hear a stick break. I duck around behind a tree and bring my rifle up and see him about 50 yards away looking right through me.  He does the head bob, foot stomp thing.  After what seems like an hour he licks his nose, twitches his tail and comes straight at me.  He stopped broadside at less than 10 feet and looks back over his tail.  I could smell him as I put the hammer down.  He lunged forward and tipped over. 
     He isn't the highest scoring deer I've ever shot but he is the biggest (239).  Had to drag him(bad knee and all) 300 yards through a bog before we could get a quad to him.

This buck was shot last year (2009), opening day of shotgun season.  My other uncle saw this deer run out of the woods by my stand the weekend before as he was scouting the land, and told me about this guy.  So come opening saturday my GF and I are sitting on the stand and catch a glimpse of this guy in the thick stuff and chase 2 does across to our neighbors.  About 30 minutes later he came by my stand through some more thick stuff as we were watching a spike and 2 does to our left, this guy came from the left.  So he walked about 20 yards in the clearing and BANG.  Ran about 50 yards and full in some blow-down tree areas.
Never knew how big he was until I actually got up to him to gut him out... I saw the rack but didnt pay attention to it when I saw him.

   - there is another deer like that this year, but he will be hiding in the swamp all year, I hope he comes out when im on the stand.

October 13th, 2001 was when this buck was shot. Had an old Eagle bow that wasn't set up the best (like a twanger) and missed a legit 140 inch deer three days previous. I thought for sure it was the bows fault, so I decided to buy a newer Hoyt at the time and went back to the same area to hunt a few days later. Well, turned out to be dumb luck that I missed because this one walked out in front of me at 10 yards and I stuck him. He grossed 169, and netted 159-3/8. This is by far the biggest buck I have shot.

November 2, 2007.  Took the day off work to squeeze in an all day hunt before the firearm season.  I had been bowhunting for almost 10 years and had taken a few deer, but had a couple of very unforunate circumstances and opportunities blown on nice bucks. Te worst was the fall before when I completely blew it on a 150 class whitetail at 10 yards, to this day I still don't know exactly what happened that morning.  After that miss, I rededicated myself to bowhunting.  I bought a new bow, retooled all my equipment and practiced more than I ever had the summer of 2007.  On that morning, I went to a stand and actually missed a doe when the string hit my coat and I shot way in front of her.  I was pretty dejected but had a spot that I wanted to move a stand to that afternoon.  So I got out of the stand, and shot some arrows that morning just to make sure it was me and not the bow.  It was definitely me. I booked it out to the other farm and moved the stand.  I had it all done by 2:00 p.m.  I went home, showered again, and was back in the stand at 4:00 p.m.  At 5:30 4 does came by and started feeding in the alfalfa field in front of me.  I could hear another deer coming behind me.  As luck would have it, he managed to come in on my left side and the does in front of me never spooked. When I cought him out of the corner of my, I could see he was a fantastic buck, I let him get behind a little tree, he paused and it gave me time to get a good anchor and make sure that I had some slight arm bend, he finally moved out from behind the tree, I let a bah go and he stopped, quick aim and release.  I saw the arrow bury itself right behind the front shoulder and go right through him.  He ran about 20 yards and just stood there.  I waited with a heart racing so fast I think he could hear it.  He wobbled a little bit and I remember praying for him to please fall, but, he didn't, he put his head down and tore you know what back where he came from.  I waited 20 minutes and snuck out, fist pumping with a major adrenaline rush.  I got home and told my wife I just shot one of the biggest bucks I had ever seen.  I called a few guys and told them I just shot a buck, I knew it was dead, but I wasn't sure where it was.  We went out around 9:00 and it was the longest 3 hour wait ever. We found the arrow and good blood.  We walked about 20 yards and one of the guys said he had blood and the other guy said he had good blood too, thats when we knew he was pumping it out both sides and wouldn't be far. When we found the deer we were all in awe at just how big he actually was.  None of us had any idea how big he was. His gross score ended up at 168.  It was a good day.  The deer was actually shot in Winona county.  He was a real brute, I'm glad I could share, I've been surfing this sight for awhile.

Great to hear you finally got the dear after a few mishaps - I had a similar story happen to me, but mine was with a shotgun - I missed a huge buck from 10-15 yards a few years back and was haunted ever since, but I got a chance at another buck this past year and didnt miss 

Im with you deadeye, I never get sick of hearing deer stories, gets my heart beatin!   

If you dont mind me asking, where abouts in Winona county do you hunt?  I know a few guys that hunt outside of Minnesota city as well as near Rushford and Nodine.

I shot the deer on land that was pretty much just on the other side of the border between Wabasha and Winona county.
