Where can a guy launch on the river either up by monti or cambridge and have a decent time going down? Not looking for secret spots, just an easy float to kill some honkers and green heads.

You can launch right at the hwy95 bridge in cambreage, just wait till you clear the city limits to shoot.

better get your tape measure out--

http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/rlp/regulations/hunting/2006/waterfowl_sup.pdf

A PERSON MAY NOT TAKE MIGRATORY WATERFOWL, COOTS OR RAILS IN OPEN WATER UNLESS THAT PERSON IS

c) on a river or strean that is not more than 100 yards n width.

my guess is that is going to be close in that area.
the local C.O. may have allready given the nod on that though.

Can you clarify this for me?  I have been fishing on the Ol' Miss this fall and almost everytime I am there there are guys that are hunting geese (ducks also maybe).  Is this legal?

the law gives three exceptions.
one is, except while persuing wounded birds,
another is while concealed in natural vegatation, the other is the 100 yard rule.

people have float hunted rivers for decades.
I think this has been recently addressed and the 100 yard rule is in place. how stringent they are on that rule I do not know. I know the mississippi is not more than 100 yards wide here up nort, but down that far, I bet it is pretty close, probly even wider. it would be a good question for the area C.O.

OH 100 Yards...  Your previous post says 10 yards.  It would be darn close to 100 yards I know that.  There are CO's there all the time so it must be legal.

oops, sorry, my mistake, I fixed it thanks.

I would guess that with the shoreline width varying as the river turns and bends, that they set a limit as to a location, nauticaly speaking where there will be no hunting south of this point, where ever that may be.

I'm with you on this jig

I can tell ya this, most people who own "Private Property" boardering the river,  wouldn't want anybody shooting ducks/geese and dropping them on their "Private Property"

All kinds of things come into play, like livestock, 500ft rule from buildings, cover as Jig posted.

Myself, I think if your floating a river these days and shooting birds off the shore of "Private Property"..your looking for more trouble than I would be willing to risk. I go out to get away from people, trouble and confrontation.  To each his own, I would look elsewhere for a better hunting experience

There's plenty of room for all gods creatures...right next to my mashed potatoes

I agree...  PLUS there fishing my hot spots and I don't want to be close to them when the birds are flying in.
