We’ve split our fleet of houses up and are now fishing two different areas. Our plowed road access is out 11 miles from the lodge in 32-35’, with no other resorts or private houses near us. Our sleepers are out deep in this area as well. We are still seeing great numbers of suspended Walleye from 5-20’ below the ice. There are quite a few Tullibees cruising around suspended as well. Saugers are tight on the bottom. The number of fish being caught has been fair to good, but the quality of fish has been superb. Nice keeper sized Walleyes and bigger are out numbering Saugers.

We also have a group of houses, only accessible by bomber, up between Knight Island and Bridges. It’s quite a haul up there (one hour ride), but the number of fish has made the trip worthwhile. Most of the action is just off the bottom. The number of Saugers being caught has been ridiculous. Walleyes are mixed in as well as an occasional Jumbo Perch and Eelpout.

Between the two areas guests are getting a great mix of what Lake of the Woods has to offer. The deep mud bite and suspended Walleyes are a blast with a flasher. It makes an angler really pay attention when a suspended mark shows up on the flasher. It doesn’t take long to figure out those marks are consistently nice Walleye! The up north bite by Knight and Bridges is bringing the fast action people have come to expect from Lake of the Woods. Although Saugers are outnumbering Walleyes, you just never know when a trophy Walleye is going to find your bait.

Weather wise, the week looks to be starting off as one would expect for this time of year, with day time highs in the single digits. By the weekend temps are suppose to be quite comfortable in the low 20s. It should be a great week to be up here and out on the lake!
