CWD harvest update

http://www.startribune.com/sports/outdoors/117208358.html

Landowners near Pine Island shot about 475 deer, including 325 adult whitetails, during a special three-week action that ended Monday. The DNR wants to test 900 adult deer in the area for chronic wasting disease (CWD), after a wild deer killed by a hunter last fall was found with the fatal brain disease.

Now federal sharpshooters, who began shooting last week, will ramp-up their efforts to collect another 600 adult deer. "They shot 27 last night," said Lou Cornicelli, DNR big game coordinator. "They will be out virtually every night now that the landowners are done hunting."

So far, about 525 deer have been killed, and test results from 425 have been done; all were negative.

How do they become sharpshooter's? I don't think I would want to sit and slaughter deer by useing a light. :bs:

I think you know somebody, who knows somebody to get that job!

Probably has a great retirement package and benefits.  You get to drive a fancy late model green 4x4 and pull a nice fishing boat or 4 wheeler around while bragging to your friends what a great shot you are.

When your done destroying the local wildlife, you get to drag around a trailer full of heads, and make fun of guys who got in trouble for doing the same thing that the state pays you the big bucks for doing.   ;D

I wonder where an average guy like me can get into a "hobby" like that?

You need a spot light, a good rifle, and a game plan that keeps you pulling the trailer instead of riding in it!

They also put out corn piles to draw them in to the slaughter.

SO next year I will do my own CWD harvest management and hunt over bait.  Just wanting to help out....
