With the NNW wind Kid #1 and myself decided to go for a bow hunt.  Picked her up from school and headed to my uncles land.  I let her decide where to hunt.  The spot she picked was a long walk because of the wind direction.  3/4  mile walk later we are settled in and ready for the action to begin.  We see one of the biggest fox squirrels of my life.  Had to be 3 pounds.  It was hitting the acorns pretty hard.  At 5:15 we hear something coming through the center of the woods.  Sounded like a tank!  It wasn't a tank, it was a red truck.  It comes to a halt 50 yards away.  The guy jumps out and slams his door and starts walking right at us.  I wistle and ask what he is doing.  He apologises and says he is trapping and will be quick about checking his traps.  He procedes to walk right past us and down the ditch and through the bedding area.  To say I was mad was an understatment.  30 min later he comes out of the swamp with all his traps.  I kept my calm and asked to make sure he had permision.  Turns out that he had permission from my cousin (uncles 40 year old daughter).  I was calm and friendly because I didn't want to be a bad example for my daughter.  It still really sucked that our hunt was ruined for the night.  We walked back to the car and saw a nice buck 100 yards from the car.  Go figure.
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.

Once, when I was closer in age to your Kid #1, I was tramping through the woods and saw the bottom half of a grouse sticking up out of the ground.  I walked over and started kicking at it.  As I dislodged the half burried grouse I tripped a small leg-hold fox trap.  I felt really bad for messing up the trapper's set, but I didn't know how to reset the trap.

So now the score is even - maybe - I guess.
