Well it is a sad day today at our house. We had to put down our 11 yr old fox red lab today. We brought her in and she had lost a bunch of weight and they said she had cancer and arthritis. So we had to make the hard decesion and had her put down. We will miss SYDNEY so much she was a wonderful house dog and hunter. We have so many great memories.

Sorry to hear the bad news Pheasantman,  Its never a good thing when you have to get rid of a family member that has provided so much enjoyment. Im gonna be in the same perdicament soon as my parents 13 yr old black lab gordon settle mix is getting old fast and we are gonna give her one more summer of fun at the cabin and then prolly have to do the same this fall. I know how it feels like loosing a friend, A good resolution to the family pain is to get another good dog.

Its a shame they have such a short life span~ I'm on my 4th retriever in 37 years, cancer took my boy last september at 10 years old,10 months later I still miss him and dealing with a 80lb pup,on the bright side he's coming around and show's great promise, another pup does help...some.

Sorry for your loss, for those of us who have had the privilege of owning a good dog when hearing of one moving on it makes us remember our own. You can never replace them as they each have their own personalties and quirks. My old dogs always make me smile when I think of them and it is hard to remember all the trouble they sometimes got into. Makes me pet the ones at my side now. A picture somewhere where you can see it everyday always helps me let them go..

yup it's tough. they just put ya at ease.. come home from a bad day at work, no one greats you like a dog who has the hopes of chasing his dummy around the yard, and maybe that dummy will toss his ball for him/her. I said we were waiting a year before we got a new one... within a few months I had a breeder picked out and was visiting them to decide if I wanted one of their pups (she's a fox red too). love em.

good luck

I've had to say goodby to a few great dogs.  Miss them all.  They become a big part of the family and are just like the kids.  Sorry for your loss and hope you find a new pup that will help fill the void.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It brings back many memories of last year. A new one does help some. A year or so later you will still be saying I still miss him or her. Time goes by fast.
