Spearing and Angling in one house?

Has anyone heard that the rules changed and we will now be able to Spear and Angle at the same time?   Supposely that the spear counts as one line.   

I can't seem to find any regulations on this, but have heard from a few people that it is correct. 

Now I may be able to angle some of those perch that keep bugging my decoy!

I checked the regs and on page 58 its states:

"A person may take fish by angling in a dark house if only one angling line is in use and any fish caught is immediately released or put on the ice"

That is all I could find, so I am still not for sure.   I seen on another web site, were people were also talking about this.   Not 100% sure.

 Â        the dnr would be loseing to much funding to let that happen, as it would mean NOT haveing to BUY  a second license to either spear or angle . but yes it sure sounds good.

Well some other people I have talked to say that they heard from the DNR that it wouldn't start until next year.  And that you would still have to have a Spearing license.

More than likely just a rumor.

I'll let you know if I hear more.

I don't know what you mean by a second shelter lic? For yrs when younger all I had was a portable spearhouse and used it for both. But not at the same time.

If you purchase a spearing lic it's still invalid w/o your regular angling lic.

 :)  i use 2 houses, 1 of each and two licenses, that way i am not moveing my house back and forth (i am LAZY when it comes to fishing) I WANT IT TO BE AS RELAXING  AS POSIBLE.

 ;D   SURPRISE SURPRISE!! just talked with al stevens of the dnr, and IT,S TRUE  YOU CAN SPEAR AND ANGLE AT THE SAME TIME IN A SPEAR HOUSE!!!! BUT you cannot have a fish on the line at the same time that you are spearing. so it sound to me like double jepardy, and open to interpatation to the game warden? this new game law change took affect aug.1st 2006 and is a go this year as soon as the ice permits.  ???   :-\

I wonder why they want everyone to put the fish one the ice as soon as you get them.   Maybe to prevent people from using game fish as bait??

This will make the Winnie spearing trips even more interesting.  I have had Numerous Nice Perch down the hole.   

I can already see one problem,  I'll be messing around trying to get a little perch to bit and a 20lber will swim on through!

All we need now is Ice.

Sounds like there should be no excuses not to bring fish home to ma.

Now an interesting question I have is, can you be spearing and have a Tip-up set up?

since tip ups count as one angling line, that make it pretty easy to draw that conclusion, unless they are exclusively excluded but that would be undenieable discrimenatory.

 ???  it did not state that a person had to have one or two lines in the house or out . but i would asume that one line either way could be legal? or ? :-\  if you have two lines out (tip ups or hand held) with a spear in action with a decoy, live or artifical you could be illegal ?

I couldn't find anything like that on page 58. Instead I found "A person may not have a spear in a dark house or fishhouse while taking fish by angling or with tip-ups."

Anyway my take on what gopher found is only one line maybe used for angling while in a dark house provided they don't have a spear in the house with them. The only thing that would be new about that is that we used to be able to use two lines.

I searched the new regs and couldn't find anything about the topic at all.? According to what ya wrote about al stevens saying yes, my ? is why ain't it in the reg book?

 :)  griz, DNR AL STEVENS ,told me that it took place in augest this year and the hand book had already been published . as we know the dnr is always late on getting the word out on any changes that dont involve monetary gain in the same year ! there are or is more money in fines if people dont know !!!!!!

Griz,  go to the online regs... it's in there.  I verified you can angle and spear at the same time, you just need to imediatley remove any fish caught by hook and line and put it outside of the house.  This is to eliminate the possibility of using a hook caught fish as bait.  Your spear is considered one line and your hook is the other.  I can see a lot of guys missing pike reeling in a fish and that in turn will bring in Mr. Big... but I guess it will allow you to target that walleye that likes to come through every 15 minutes and look at your decoy.

Griz I orginally found that in the online regulations.   I also e-mailed the dnr this Question.

 ;D  well hears what i have learned first hand! i talked to RANDY POSNER the local game warden today, and with a few questions i am satisfied in the answer ! NO TIP UPS. ONE ANGLING LING ONLY.  WHEN SPEARING ,AND YOU WANT TO ANGLE KEEP SPEARING LIKE NORMAL AND IF YOU FISH WITH A HAND LINE AND CATCH FISH YOU HAVE TO PUT THEM OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE . real simple and no catches to it just dont try to be a hog! another chance to up the fish for home, after being riped with a one fish over 30 in. only in 3 as a limit .  :)
