Just kinda wondering,,,, Now that I'm hooked on spearing does anyone have any experience with them hand ice saws?

I know a chain saw is a good way to go,,,but when the ice gets deeper than that what would you do?

DaveO, I have a Sporty's Ice Saw, works great to about 15"... would work beyond that but it does get harder to pull it through that much ice.  Folds up nice and compact too.

Good Luck!

Daveo, I've had to auger a crap loaad of holes in a square and chip in between them when it gets thicker, but usualy I have the house out before it gets that thick and then it's just a matter of re-opening it each day.

;D  all i do is auger the 4 corners out , and then use a ice saw that dates back to the early 1950,s . the one with the TEE handel and about 4 1/2 feet long when i feel full of energy, or its the auger and 20 holes = 24 x36 inch hole.  :P draging still by time you get her finished.

Horse power = Logic

Buy a bigger bar and chain for the chainsaw.

hell yeah! we cut through 36 inches of ice on red a few years back!
twenty holes ten foot square cut in half, in just over three hours.
two guys with two saws.with 48 inch bars....IN EACH HAND!!
I was one tired puppy after that bout, but I'd do it all over again.

that was the day I made the jiggle auger. we was just talking about that tonight as a matter of fact!
