A pet deer escaped (just before firearm season) from a hobby farm after a bear torn open it's fence.  A hunter harvested the deer and the owners would like it's head back.  Here is a link.

I think the hunter has every right to keep this buck.  What are your thoughts?

I think that the hunter that shot the buck should be able to keep it.  The deer is out in the wild, he harvested it, he should be able to keep it.

There is no reason that he should not be able to keep it. Pet or no pet it was on publice land and it is a deer. Hell, aren't there laws against having a deer as a pet?

You can have them as pets if you have a permit/lic from the DNR and you have bill of sale as proof you didn't trap or catch it out of the wild. I had to do that back in the days when I raised mink and fox. Things may have changed now as that was 20 yrs ago.

thats what i say. it becomes fair game once it hits public property.
if the guy knew it was there, then that would have been pretty cheesy, but aparently he didnt.
open and shut case i say.

I think once that buck walks on to state land it is fair game for anyone to shoot as long as they didnt know about the deer escaping. I mean if i seen a buck as big as they say it is i am not gonna look for tags or anything i am gonna do wat every normal hunter will do put the crosshairs just behind the front shoulders and squeeze the trigger

i think even if I saw the tag i'd shoot it.  The only thing that I could think it might be is the dnr tracking it or something and maybe, like shooting a banded duck, i could get some information on it.

heck, i don't know nothing about tagging privately owned deer.  and geez.. the guy curtosy called them and told them he wacked their livestock deer.  what more do you want?  maybe throw them a bag of jerky???
