August 27th Oahe/Sharpe Fishing Report

Fished the Sederlin Group from Kansas way to possession limits of walleye the first part of the week and then fished in a tournament for two days so have been behind on this report. Had a great time with these guys and caught most of these fish on bttm/bouncer night crawlers in 20 to 30 fow. I didn't do well in the tournament however many of the touring pro's weighed big weights mostly catching the big fish in deep trees using various methods. If you want big fish getting them out of trees on the big flats is were it is happing but be prepared to lose some tackle and tie some bait on. Fishing in open water is very productive for 14 to 17 inch fish however so if you want a little easier fishing these fish seem to be hanging around 20 t0 25 fow from the dam all the way up to the 212 bridge. The Salmon bite is below average. Northern are around mostly down deep. The bite is good on Lake Sharpe from below Pierre to the bend area. Both live bait fishing with night crawlers and pulling plugs are working. If fishing around Pierre be careful as new sand bars everywhere. An example would be coming out of Hipple lake (farm Island ) you can't go were the buoys used to be you have to go south after you come out of the opening to the main river. Every one is taking there time fishing on Sharpe now as the flooding has changed much of the structure so watch your depth finders.
