Sorry this is late but just wanted to show you all there are BULL GILLS in the West metro.

Went out with Hogeye's (Nathan) last Sunday (1/14) to a little lake (less then 200 acreas) that he has been scouting.  Even though it is a pretty small lake, it has a few deep parts to it ~30 feet, which Nathan has been pulling some crappies out of.  When I arrived he was set up in 20 feet of water which surprised me that they would be this deep.  After about 45 minutes of seeing nothing on the Marcum VS560 camera we pulled it up and instantly had fish on the LX3 & 5.  I dropped my firetiger Jammin Jig down and got hit hard, ~3 lb pike that cut me at the bottom of the hole.  After that the sunnies would come though like crappies a few feet off the bottom.  A spring bobber was important and we ended up with 15 or so in 3 hours.  Nathan was using a Wolfram Jig (Your Bobbers Down) and like I said combining that with a waxie or two and a spring bobber was deadly...  Lots of 8+" Bulls, they were thick... 5 fish (10 fillets) filled up a Ziplock Sandwich Bag.  My Norwegian mother (who doesn't eat walleye) sure will enjoy those fish.

Sorry about the pictures.  The ones we took on the lake didn't want to come off the camera.  I hope to have some short video of the outing soon.

Some dandy's Scott

looks like this weekend was pretty good fishing all over.

Seen lots of good reports on pan fish and all on wax worms and a jig

I like the cheap bite, don't have to keep buying minnow's. Pike size Suckers and shinners are bringing a prem. up in my kneck of the woods. I have said I won't buy anymore. Sticking to waxies and jigs as much as possible..so far so good

Nice report Scott!  So much fun catching nice bluegills through the ice.  Maybe next time we can hook into more of the bulls 9"+  There are also some slabs to be caught but they've seemed to be much less frequent as of late.

Scott,

They look fat even laying on their sides.  Those are big fish for the metro.
