I went to my land a couple weeks ago.  All the tracks in the mud got me thinking about the deer that made them.  However, the skeeters and deer flies made me think about survival rather than hunting.

ahh yes the deer flies. i remember scouting in summer with my dad and we would be driving the 4 wheeler down the dusty trails. the horse flies bouncing off your head. i found a trick though, they tend to buzz the tallest thing which was my dads head after i was ducking low. then he would have twice the flies and i would be completely free of the buggers!  :offtopic:

ive had the itch lately, so went out to check my camera, only to find out it had broken/stopped working. it was fine on june 24th when i checked it, so i think the heat wave we had/humidity shorted out the screen. so im sending it back to wild innovations sense i bought the warrenty with it last october. i was thinking about stands and the one ladder stand is going to stay put, because its my honey hole for shotgun season, 3 bucks out of it in the past 3 seasons, each with only sitting in it for 20 minutes each time. lots of does in that area and you know what the oldest trick to finding a rutting buck is to be where the does are/bed.
i have one stand to move but i tryed earlyer this year but its been there so long i cant get the chain to come off, so i have to clip it, but thats ok because i dont like that stand much anyways. i have to buy another ladder stand to put in that area its a wooded tree line thats only 125 yards wide thats connected to the edge of a big hill that goes to corn and has a marsh on the other side of it.
i have to buy a new hang on cause the one i have i have to clip to remove and it scares me anyways. have to put that one where i put my climber alot, side of a hill that comes from a bedding area.  so theres lots to do but i just have been so busy this offseason that i havent had much time to do any of this stuff.

going out this weekend to get some things in the woods done. i have to pull one stand(hang on) i'm also tilling and spraying round up for a late plot, just to test if it will work. ive also got to retill another area where i already have a small plot, but the weeds took it over so i have to start from scratch again. no big deal. throwing no till i think. and im also checking cameras.

I put out a couple cameras two weeks ago.  Haven't been back since.  We have been talking about what work needs to be done but haven't made the first step towards it yet.  Trails will need a lot of work after wind storms last fall.  We are mostly waiting for the deer flies to go away.  Should be anytime now.

went out to the woods on friday. put out trail camera an another trophy rock. worked the ground on my main plot and sprayed round up on it, going back friday morning to plant on that one. worked ground at second plot site and planted imperial no till(best no till out there in my opinion) hacked down taller weeds around plot site A, hoping that will help mosquito control. was getting to hot out so i didnt move any stands 2 are in money spots.. i need to move another one, and buy one more ladder stand. also got out to shoot the bow for awhile trying to sight in. got first 2 pins done, but there were to many people at the 30-40 yard targets so i didnt do those ones yet.

planted the late lplot a few weeks ago and its coming up good now. put the trail cams out the same time got 3 for sure hit list bucks. they are so typical that its hard to distinguish them except that i have one pic with all 3 in it. one is easy to tell he has a masive right side but his left side tines are basicly nubs about 3 in tall.

I hear you Lentz, with today's cold snap and tonight's freeze there should be less skeeters out there.  This cold air sure has deer hunt'n written all over it. :green archer:

I spent yesterday and three days last weekend clearing trails.  There was quite a mess left from some storms we had last fall.  Anyway, all trails have been cleared of deadfalls and mowed.  The food plots are also mowed.  Now we can start on checking stands.  What? bow season starts tomorrow, damn, I'm not ready yet.

There will be skeeters. It is supposed to warm up again. They hide in the woods and under the grass where it doesn't freeze right away.
